goofed and put this in the articles forum. i'm a member over there and came across this the other day. thought you guys would be interested to see some LEO's opinions of legal carry by citizens http://forums.officer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73431&highlight=CCW

Doesn't surprise me.

I don't think I've ever heard any of the LEOs I've dealt with say that they opposed citizen carry with proper training and background check.

Yes, If in addition to # 2 they can pass range test and written legal self defense test.

AS opposed to an illegal self-defense test.

I am glad that the opinion seems to be in our favor, but it seems funny to me that 41% said we should be able to pass a self defense legal test, but MANY LEOs are ignorant of gun statutes in their own state.

Well this LEO loves the idea of CCW.

When I run someone's license, it automatically shows HCP status.

When one pops up "Permit Status: Valid", I am instantly more at ease.

"Bad guys" don't get permits (they don't follow the rules), and I have NEVER had a problem with someone who possessed one.

I wish more people would take advantage of our right-to-carry law.

It's part of the reason Dustin and I started our company.

As I have said before, most of the Police Officers I know are all for armed citizens.

Now if we could get the legislators in Illinois to feel the same way as the cops; the citizens would be able to carry and the cops wouldn’t have to arrest people for something they think shouldn’t be a crime.

You're right, of course...but until then, that's where "officer discretion" comes in.
