Knoxville Members - Trying to Find Local Source for Strike Anywhere Matches

Anyone know a local source for the strike anywhere matches? Ace Hardware at Watt Rd. used to carry them, but I haven't been there in a long time. I've heard there are nanny state laws making them either prohibited or prohibitively expensive, but I don't know that for fact. Barring that, anyone have an article on how to make your own? I've seen some out there, but details can be non existent.

Not local... but you can order them online at Amazon and other places. Just looked at Amazon and they have bulk 10-packs for like $8. Shipping might be cost prohibitive if you're only wanting a box or two, but doable if you're stocking up some SHTF/BOB essentials.

ETA: Haven't tried any of the "How To" or vids on them... but you can google "how to make strike anywhere matches" and find a lot of info. If you try it, and have good results, be sure to let us know. If you burn your house down or sustain 3rd degree burns all over your body, in the process, be sure to take pics of that too. ;)

Thanks, VK. :( I'll try not to burn the building down.

Wow. Used to be strike anywhere was the only kind of wooden matches you could get. Before somebody thought of safety matches. You could buy them at the corner market. To quote Roland, The Gunslinger, "The world is moving on".

The Sportsman's Warehouse here sold strike anywhere matches (I stocked up). It's closed but isn't there one on that end of the state still open?

They, IMHO, are the best matches (used as matches) available. And they will burn underwater.

Because you never know when you might want a cigarette while your diving.

I found some at a yard sale once, they bought those unpaid storage buildings, I jumped on them cause I have not seen them in years. I asked how much she said free. SWEET. But thanks for the info on where to get more.

Ace Hardware has them.

I sometimes find them at Ace Hardware. I need to check the one on Kingston Pike closest to you.

I bought some this year at a hardware store in Madisonville.

Thanks!

I got some at the Army Surplus store on Alcoa Highway, he also had potassium iodine pills and I got them.

I was surprised how hard it was to find potassium iodine. I couldn't find it in Oak Ridge. I figured that they would give it out at City Hall in Oak Ridge or something, nope.

I'll check that store, as well. That place gets mauled sometimes and you have to dig through piles of stuff that's not priced.

I know it doesn't help you, but I found some at the Ace Hardware in Springfield.

Like others have said, if you can't find them locally you could always order them from Amazon.

Or when it has been raining for days, and it is still raining. Try lighting a fire with a bic when everything including yourself is soaked to the bone. I am talking pruned fingers from being wet for 24+ hours of rain.

I bought some there 'bout 3 months ago...they had both the large kitchen size box and the small individual sized ones.

That's for sure, but if the guy who owns the place is in there he will help and get more reasonable on the prices, plus he is a very interesting individual.

Kroger has them

By the charcoal?

Better double check, the ones from Krogers here are strike anywhere only if you have the matchbox striker with you to use.

Geez, SunTzu, I got about 40 large boxes. You should'a said something.

I have been to the mountaintop. I've got a few boxes already. I have friends who are looking for some, as well, so I am looking for a place to send them. I'd rather send them to get them than get them and send them, they might get used to that.
