Favorite Gun Rag?

Hello All:

Anyone wish to post an opinion on their favorite firearms magazine and why they think so? I have yet to find one I truly love, so am looking for more options. Here's my deal:

1) I get American Rifleman through my NRA membership, so that's out.

2) I currently subscribe to Shooting Times and Guns & Ammo. I find both ok, but with too much focus on reloading/custom rounds for my taste, and too "rah-rah" about the industry (every company is great, every new gun is the best ever, etc...)

I know magazines get money from ad revenue, so I dont expect perfection, but any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks all. Happy and safe shooting.

I dont really subscribe to any. But I think Guns and Ammo would be a good one.

I don't have a regular subscription (yet), but SWAT is a good magazine which is put together by a great bunch of guys who are active on several forums, and stay on top of realistic interests.

I also keep a few issues of Shotgun News (drool factor) and American Handgunner near the throne... And there are a few boxes of old NRA magazines in the closet (American's First Freedom, etc)... I would recycle them or give them away, but I do go digging thru to look up articles more often than I tend to admit.

I personally don't care for Guns & Ammo... the hype within usually disappoints me, and causes me to doubt the information which I don't already know is true or exaggerated. But I do have a few lying around, usually those with articles which I like to compare with other reviewers' commentary.

I tend to pick up American Handgunner more often than any of the others. I get American Rifleman by virtue of my NRA membership.

I usually read Guns magazine. I only read it in the store though. I only buy about 1 per year when there is something of interest in it.

Ill have to second American hadgunner.....that reminds me, the new issue just hit the stands, might have to saunter over to WW manana and pick one up.

I get Guns & Ammo but I never read it. It's like that with every magazine I get these days. I get American Rifleman, too, but again I never read it.

If anyone is thinking of getting any magazine subscription, check ebay for it. I have been using ebay for mag subscriptions for about 5 years and they can be as cheap as 1/4 of the best deal from the publisher (for example, $9.99 for 3 years of Car Craft).

Thanks for the responses everyone! I did not know you could get magazine subscriptions on eBay! Thanks!!

Well I just ordered it, now have another subsrciption that I will never read

Do you take power potty breaks or something? Don't rush it... it's not a race and you'll blow a gasket. Better to sit there and read while you're in the library. :(

I read and collected American Handgunner and read Combat Handguns as well. However due to budget constraints (lack of work) I gave up my subscriptions and actually gave away a bunch of old books.I needed the space anyway.

you all need to check out Gun Tests magazine http://www.gun-tests.com/ they buy their guns through a dealer so there are no manufacturer samples and they evaluate them honestly. I need to get another subscription and i keep the old back issues for reference. Kind of a Consumer Reports for the gun world

American Rifleman is great

American Handgunner is good too
