Holster quest. Which of these 2 choices?

I have a sigma sw9ve for which I'm choosing a holster. I've narrowed it down to either a fobus roto or a shoulder holster. My carry method has to be either cross draw owb or shoulder. Neurosurgeon says no iwb, nothing behind the back and the 9ve is too big for pocket carry. I have to sit a lot when out of the house so good access while seated is essential.

I've heard some bad things about the fobus. Are the roto series as easily broken? The benefit to the roto is the ability to rotate to a comfortable sitting position and they have a shoulder rig if owb doesn't work out.

Shoulder holster options are verticle or horizontal. What are the pro's and con's of each style? Does horizontal print more (think summer with a lightweight shirt hanging out of the pants)? Is verticle too slow to draw?

Options have to be below $75 so it'll be kydex.

There are a LOT of choices below $75 that will work and stay in one piece. Finding a good (read comfortable and safe) shoulder holster below $100 is a good trick.

I guess I'm trying to say, buy something other than Fobus.

The Don Hume straight drop will work Cross draw.

Holsters are very difficult to shop for. The only sure way to know what works is to wear it for a day or so. And determining what will 'print' and what won't is equally difficult as we come in so many different shapes.

For me, I'm 6'2", 250lbs, relaitvely wide shoulders and not too much gut. I've had a Jackass shoulder rig for over 30 years that is easily hidden under any loose shirt or a jacket. It's comfortable, secure, durable, and well worth what I paid for it. Jackass was bought out by Galco, and the 'classic' is what they call my shoulder holster. I don't know anyone who has bought a Galco holster and was disappointed in the quality.

You generally get what you pay for in holsters. Try out as many as you can to see what works for you. Store fitting will get you a good idea of what does or doesn't work. Sometimes you can get a bargain on eBay or GunBroker.

If you have broad shoulders a vertical shoulder rig may not work for you. I have a Galco (horizontal) and like it.

How's the horizontal for printing under a shirt? Seems like it would be easier to draw from while sitting.

I just picked up a Jackass from opticsplanet.com for $123 with free shipping. Great holster for my Glocks. Really comfortable and nice not having my clothes tugged at.

That said, I went with crossbreed for my 1911 and p6... you just can't go wrong. Mine are IWB but they make a cheaper OWB version that looks pretty nice... $48. Great company to order from as well. I highly recommend their gun belts too.

Look at HighNoon holsters. they have shoulder rig - under armor - for about $80. they "leather" they use for it is pretty decent, i have one of there tuckableholsters with the same leather and it works pretty good.

I'd stay away from Fobus, except as a range holster... nothing wrong with the company or design, they are just flimsy and use a weak plastic. Find one holster that will last you 10 years is better than ten you have to replace every year (or will break on you in a bad situation).

I like Don Hume, Safariland, Blackhawk, Galco, and Bianchi OWB holsters... try a bunch, they all fit and draw differently.

How's the horizontal for printing under a shirt? Seems like it would be easier to draw from while sitting.

Printing isn't horrible. If it's too hot for a jacket I use an unbuttoned shirt for cover. Never had an issue.

Much easier to draw from when seated than I/OWB while sitting. They're great for driving IMO.

The Fobus Roto gets a bad rep for some reason,but I used one for the first XD I had,and never had any problems.

I actually beat the hell out of that thing getting in and out of my car without so much as a whimper.

No,its not the best holster out there,but for someone that needs cant adjustment several times a day ,its the only option.

Now Im using a SOB holster for the 1911,and have actually found that when positioned on the hip (3 Oclock~ish) it has a perfect draw angle while seated,and the muzzle is up enough to keep it from digging in when you sit down.

It's a little unconventional,and weird to think that a SOB holster could be used comfortably in that location,but it works well though.

You might wanna give that a try and see how it works for you!

Yup... it does exactly what a $20ish dollar plastic holster is suppose to do. I still have mine. Beat and scratched all up, but still has its place and use.
