Charles Daly / KBI Inc Ultra X Compact 1911 A-1 Pistol

It is a 3" compact 1911 in 9mm and holds 12 rounds. I have no experience with the brand at all. Any opinions/reviews would help.

What other compact/concealable (3-4" barrel) 1911 models are there out there? (any other 9mm's?)

IMO the only company who've had success with polymer frame 1911/2011 style pistol is STI. Now CD makes ok guns kinda on the low end, but lately they bought Magnum Research, maybe that would help them a but. Not that i am crazy about Mag Res 's quality anyways. the gun looks interesting, and i'd like to know how it pans out.

It's a 3" double stack 1911 by a new to 1911's company. I'd say let someone else find it's flaws.

Compact 1911's known to work:

Wilson pick a small one

Nighthawk, pick one

Baer, pick one

Colt Agent, Officers, Defender

Kimber old compacts

Springfield Champion/micro champion

9mm

Springfield EMP

Just remember the shorter the barrel the more often the recoil spring must be changed. With a 3" gun you are looking at every 300-500rds. My 5" goes 5000+ depending on which recoil spring I use.

Every compact 1911 I have found is through the roof in price.

I don't understand why they make all these tiny concealed-carry pistols with a double-stack mag. The grip is what seems to print the most when I carry. I try to carry the thinnest possible pistol possible.

I have yet to see a Charles Daley that could compete with the gun that it was copying. I don't know if they are bad, but for that price you might want to either save a little more or just find something else. There's a whole lot of gun to be found other places under $600+

You can try the Para Hawg 9. 3" double stack 12rnd. They also just came out with an allow 4.25" 9mm that I am dying to get my hands on. Just dont have the extra cash.

You would be surprised at the actual difference between the double stack and single stack pistols. The actual grip width is not that different. Just instead of being tapered its more blocky.
