My family has 10 rental houses in Florida. We only use the base model maytag washers and dryers. MY mother bought a LG front load set and hated them and swapped them out for a set of maytags from a rental house.

NEVER BUY GE REFRIGERATOR they are self contained unit and can not be repaired. Have sent 2 to the dump that were less than 2 years old

I dont know how much the water went down I think we use less than what the service charge is all the time. @$20, And when I changed them out I switch over to gas for the dryer, That made a big dent in elec bill I think about 30-40 bucks. Gas bill went up @$10 Sorry I couldnt help anymore. And it was 6-7 years ago so my memory stinks.

Maytag. They last forever. Really.

They are made by whirlpool.

Yea it's like stoves, I used to work in the stove foundry here in Athens and all of them were the same until the backplane went on.

Question for all the "don't buy ones with electronics" guys.

Do you drive a horse, and buggy?

I've got Samsungs. Never had any problems or anything from them. Super quiet too.

Nope, though if you do get one, it would be wise to protect it.

Insurance deductibles are expensive when money is tight.

And the problem won't leave till you address it.

I will admit my whirlpools are a little loud at times But I think they were the first models that came out. I think they are quieter now.

Our utility room configuration doesn't allow for a front loading washer, so we got a top loading HE Whirlpool. As dryer technology doesn't change much, we just got the washer. Because it spins the crap out of the load, the dry time went down dramatically. And, the washer is the quietest I have heard, even when the spin cycle hits max RPM. It uses very little water, just like the front loaders. I have heard a few front loading washers really get rockin'-n'rollin' when they spin, but mine is very quiet. Utility bills... dunno. I believe that any savings you make from energy efficient appliances usually don't recoup until after the warrenty period, and if you save too much energy and lower your bill, they just raise your rates, so its a rackette IMHO. But YMMV.

I didn't read the last few pages but I work at Sears and I sell appliances.

The best brand for front loaders we carry is Samsung. Surprisingly, they will be

1)The quietest

2)Have the least vibrations

3)Have some of the lowest repair calls for

4)Don't have molding ever (on the models with silver care)

They're also pretty competitive price wise. There's a set we're going to have black friday for $999.99. That's the price for BOTH the washer and dryer together. It's a 4.0 cuft capacity in the washer; that'll do a king sized comforter.

Edit: Hah, I just read the previous posts. There may actually be a sale on the 15th of november where you can get the pair for that price. You'll have to check back with me just to make sure. That way you can get it before black friday and we'll have them in stock and won't be stupid busy.

Sears puts out its ads about a month or so in advance. They're printed or online on the computers at work (obviously it's confidential). Since we work straight commission it's nice to be able to tell people what the sale will be so they'll come back and buy from us.

So, we always find out early. :taunt:

Edit: The pair on sale for 999 will NOT have silvercare or steam. Still a great set though and super cheap.

Don't want steam, but what is "silver care"?

Mine has Silvercare, and IIRC,its a cold sterilization method that uses cold water, and silver to sterilize.

I personally don't use it,or see the need in having sterile clothes.Plus I don't like having to wait for the amount of time it takes to do it.

Maybe if I worked in a disease infested environment,or had to wash cloth dippers I would use it,but until then..
