Questions on holsters?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have a Glock 23. And i have a Tagua Leather concealment holster( which i usually wear in winter months outside the belt, but under a jacket or pullover.

I am seriously considering getting a paddle holster for my Glock, as I like the lock mechanism which keeps the gun from falling out or coming out of the holster until i pull it out.

I know the plastic holsters are easy to clean and such, but do they hold up well? I'm mainly looking into a paddle holster since i don't always wear a belt. And i ride atvs out in the woods of middle and eastern TN, so it has to hold up to that as well.

What are the pros and cons of a Paddle over a Leather? and what is the best bang for the $.

Thanks

I wear a Blackhawk paddle holster for my Glock and I like it a lot. It has the finger release, it has held up well and it is comfortable. The only downfall I can tell you is it isnt good for concealment. In my opinion this would be your best bet.

I have a Safariland Paddle holster that is leather. It has held up well over the years. I've had it out while camping and hunting and it's done it's job. The "paddle" is covered with leather and holds close to the hip and is very comfortable. While something like the Fobus or BlackHawk paddles do their jobs as well, some don't enjoy the polymer/kydex paddle digging into thier hips especialy when sitting. The size and shape of the paddle needs to ride comfortably while sitting for you since you are talking about using it for ATV rides. Retention will be suitable whether you go with a strap like mine has on it or a release button.

Same holster is used with both my glocks for my OWB carry....

That is probably close to what i'm going to get. Where did you get one of those and how much? I don't mind spending a little more for a better quality product.

I checked a Fobus at gander mountian in Huntsville, was almost tempted to get one, but figured i'd wait till i got some advice.

I purchased mine years back for about $55 from Safariland.com

I'd say purchase prices will range from $30 (on E-bay from private seller, not store) to $75....depending on what brand you can find to buy. Shop online first to see what you can find, then check your local dealers to see how they fit......

I tried a Glaco plastic paddle holster for my Glock 23 for about a week and I hated it. I also thought that they might be a good choice if I didn't have a belt on.....wrong. It wasn't stable at all and it stuck out too much from my body....at least the Galco I tried which is about the same as the Fobus ones.

I had a friend that had a .45 Glock that bought the Fobus paddle holster. It broke on him twice in six months. He was also out in the woods a lot, riding 4x4s and using a chainsaw.

If I were going to be doing a lot of active stuff like riding a 4 wheeler, I'd consider a belly band. If you're worried about the gun falling out, they can be had with a velcro thumb retention strap. I use one and I could get turned upside down and shaken and the gun still wouldn't move.

I've never tried the leather paddles....but they do look nice.

Well, decided to try a Fobus Paddle holster. Just to see how well it does.

Figuring since i don't ride like i used to, I'm more into the paced trail riding.

But still looking into the leather version of this holster for suit and tie use. Convinced that leather looks the best though. Maybe i'll ask for one for christmas.
