applied for HCP today

Recommended Posts

my wife and i filled out the application for our HCP's today at the DOS office in Franklin (Williamson County Driver Testing Center). The wait was typical DMV, but the woman that helped us was very friendly. We tried to get the duplicate permit but a man name Kenly told her it wasn't allowed. his reason? "you might not get your permit, so how could you get a duplicate?"

does anyone know where to find "the official rulebook" on this? i've read sometimes they'll let you and sometimes they won't. seems there's a rule for this somewhere, i just can't find it.

"A man named Kenly" was exactly wrong.

Of course you can pay for a duplicate at the time of the original permit.

If you are denied for the permit, they just keep all the money.

OS is right, I applied for my permit and a duplicate at the same time. When I talked to the DOS on the phone last Wednesday, the lady on the phone issused my orginal and the duplicate at the same time. Still waiting for them to arrive in the mail.

Ok so dumb question.. Why would you need a duplicate?? Planning on taking the HCP class next month and want to understand your reasons.

Thanks!

Some folks keep one on their person and one in the car, some men have two different wallets, and if (God forbid) you lose one you can still carry while you get that sorted out.

And of course, there's the "just because" faction

that's what we told him. figured if we were ok with losing the money, they should be ok with taking the application. it's kind of infuriating how they can just say something and it's gospel. no guidelines to reference or anyone to appeal to.

mostly for convenience. keep one in the wallet and a backup somewhere else (vehicle, wife's vehicle, etc). seeing how long it takes for them to come through in the first place, i'm a little wary of having to wait AGAIN if i lose mine.
