It was my b-day yesterday, So I bought myself a new toy. I had handled several Glocks before, all 3rd gen, and can't stand the finger grooves. Don't really like rails on handguns either. A couple weeks ago I handled a 2nd gen 19 and liked it a whole lot better. So today I bought a 2nd gen 17. Plan on taking it to the range tomorrow and try it out. I am carrying it now, at home, and it feels better than my Sig. No sharp edges rubbing/digging in to my side.

One of these days I might end up getting a G17 to add to my G26 and G19....just haven't felt the need for a full sized one yet....

Took it to the range today and it hits low and to the left. Tried the Sig and it hit good. Did some dry fire with the glock and tried again. Still low and left. I'll do some more dry fire practice with it this week and try again later this week or next weekend.

Congrats! I'm wondering if you are right handed. Sounds like you might be and that is common from going from a possible DA/SA Sig to a consistant short trigger on a Glock. Pay special attention to SQUEEZE and not PULL! Practice, practice, practice. You'll rock with that thing soon! If you're a lefty...beats me!

Yeah I am a righty. To be honest the trigger really feels like crap. I got to searching around and found a little insight on the crappy trigger. I just did a quick polish on the contact points and it feels a lot smoother. I will get some good polish tomorrow and go over it again before I hit the range with it again.

The contact point for the trigger mechanism to slide is an important lube spot. Make sure you get that with some oil. That may change the feel a little. The other thing is that this is the only pistol I know that charges the striker and then fires with the pull of the trigger. Most other guns just release the striker or firing pin (dependant on gun) with the trigger pull. This can contribute to that odd feeling.

Low left is very common to new Glock shooters. Just work on sight picture, breath control, and trigger pull. My Glocks shoot very well, for my eyes, but likely would suck for someone else. If you don't see the poa/poi coming together after a few range visits, drift the sights a little with a fine tuning instrument (dead blow hammer works on my non-tritium Glock sights). If you have a little money to blow, get a sight tool to do a professional job though!

Trigger time is definitely the first step.

Ha! Welcome to the wonderful world of glocks! They're great guns and will go bang just about everytime, you can detail strip 'em blindfolded and bury them for years and they'll come up working no problem... However, they do have their own particular personality...

What ammo are you using? Lightweight bullets going fast will shoot lower. Try some different ammo. Shoot some rounds with your wrist on a rest or sand bags. Have someone else shoot it also. If it is still low and left you can drift the rear sight, I use a wooden dowel rod...gently. Glock makes different sights to raise or lower point of impact and Glock factory sights are very inexpensive....3-4 bucks.

Maybe Glocks aren't really your cup o' tea. Some people really can't shoot Glocks because of how they sit in their hands and/or the trigger pull. Though it is a functional weapon, there's no sense in keeping it around if you aren't able to shoot it correctly. Either change the sights and try again or sell it......
