2nd Amendment March - Monday April 19, 2010

Hey Olds, I made it in the ticker too. I am still going to try to go. My son wants to go with me. He is in political science at UT. I think it will be a good thing for him to see. I still have to wait and see the outcome of my wife's Dr. visit next week. I want to attend this event more than I have wanted to do anything in a long time.

My schedule has changed and at this point, it now looks unlikely that I will be able to attend....all I can do at this point is donate some money to the cause and wish everyone else a successful event!

Woo-hoo,

Just got my schedule straightened out and my reservations made. My two sons are going with me. We will drive up sunday, spend the night, attend the march monday and drive back monday night. It will be a rough trip but we are excited. I think it will be a good lesson for my boys.

Way to go Glenn. I sure wish that I was going but I'm broke. I hope that you have a safe trip and will be anxiously looking forward to your report.

I know what you mean. Money is tight everywhere. I will try to get some pictures. Bet there won't be any media coverage.

Dont feel too bad my friend, I am in the same boat but I would like to thank you for the info you posted in the beginning of this thread and whomever brought it back up so that I noticed it.

I did at least join their forum FWIW. It seemed that at least half the TN members there are TGO members also.:P

I would also like to again thank TGO David for this fine place.

If I had the bucks I sure would be going there, my grand kids are in Springfield VA and it would be a chance to see them also.

What is any status for a meeting here in TN...?

Thanks for the kind words Sgt. Joe. I tried to keep this forum updated along with about 6 others. I knew that I couldn't do much with my situation with my parents and my time has been limited even more lately. When I heard about this for the 1st time at the 2nd or None event I contacted Terri and asked what I could do. This was it. I also tried to keep the 2nd Amendment March FaceBook page updated. I hope that it made at least a little difference.

As far as the TN meeting, Oldsmobile98 was going to try to get something organized since the man who was the state coordinator never really did anything that I could see. He never answered any of my many emails. Then Olds98 said that he had some sort of medical issues.

Olds98 is a Vandy student so I don't know how he could have the time to get much done. My niece is a student there also and I see what her schedule is like. I hope that we get something going but I'm waiting to see just like you are.

I have often thought the same, and I've wondered how my few dollars and hours going to change the world. But each of us giving a little makes a big difference. Thanks for your efforts, Volzfan, and everyone else out there fighting for our 2A rights. Keep up the good work!!

As far as the TN march, I am doing my best to get something together for mid-May before the legislature lets out for the rest of the year. School is killing me right now, but I'm going to do what I can to catch up. I will post on the TN state march thread as soon as I have any updates on speakers and such. PM me with suggestions/comments/questions.

Well done, Glenn. I want to be there, but I'll have to settle for watching the video.

Thanks for taking your sons. I am sure they will remember it for years to come.

Here are a few pics a friend sent me by email, I wont post them all as there are like 25 of them. The comments in black were part of the email.

I think this gathering should be appreciated as the extremely important historical event that it is. This is the first great conservative anti-statist manifestation in American history. The conservative movement, which developed in the post-WWII, Cold War environment has now fully matured into the most significant political movement of the 21st century. I believe that this day could be referred to in the not too distant future as the day that changed America. This was the day the great silent conservative majority finally found its voice.

Many of the attendees were quite meek and timid and were unsure of exactly what to expect, this being the first time in their lives they’d been involved in a protest movement. Their fears evaporated early in the day and I saw people reveling in the camaraderie , the joy and sheer civility that was exhibited at the entire event. Chants of “Freedom, freedom, freedomâ€, “No more czars! No more czars!†carried through the air without the slightest hint of rancor or incivility which is the norm at the leftist rallies I have photographed over the years.

The two photos above show a tiny fraction of those who attended. I saw signs and heard lots of comments comparing this event to Woodstock. At the time this photo was taken, around 1:00 p.m., Pennsylvania Avenue was still jammed completely, and the mall was packed from the CapitolBuilding past the WashingtonMonument. See aerial photos here.

A few more

In the very center of the photo, above the Silence is Consent – Can You Hear Us Now sign, you can see Pennsylvania Ave., which at this time is totally blocked with protesters who cannot move forward to the Capitol area. Sorry, full up.

Ever present at Tea Parties are Sons of Liberty reenactors. The couple on the left is from Tennessee and the young lady on the right is not but she joined in the photo. The clothing for the couple was hand stitched by the lady on the left. And boy do they love America

securedownload10.jpg

There were notable differences though, in the behavior of these attendees. Although the legend of Woodstock is that there was a friendly atmosphere of camaraderie, the truth is that most people were there for the drugs, sex and rock and roll. Today in D.C. There was a true kinship amongst these people based on shared values and intellectual understanding of what America is and how its future is imperiled by big radical government.

No one was having sex in the Reflecting Pool let alone the mud, and I saw no one projectile vomiting on the steps of the Capitol. There were no warnings to avoid the bad acid which would send you on a trip to the hospital.

Not just a different era, but a different level of civilized behavior and thought. Oh, and by the way, these people didn’t leave tons of garbage behind when they left. Actually they left no trash behind at all.

I sure wish I could have gone....but as they say.....it is now History.

EDIT: Sorry folks I am now unsure if these pics are from Apr. 15 or 19th......sorry.

But either way one heck of crowd.

Conformation of edit, these are in fact from Apr 15....Sorry.....I'll yank them if you like just say the word.

Unsure of actual date.

I wonder how large that April 15th crowd was compared to the 2009 9/11 march (which I was fortunate enough to attend)? It looks like a huge crowd.

I wish I could have been there for both the 4/15 Tea Party gathering and the Second Amendment March but as things ended up I just couldn't do either.

I am, however, going to be in DC for at leas one event this year, wither the 2010 9/11 March on Washington or Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" event in August or both.

I think we all must realize that none of us can do everything but all of us can do something and it's important to DO SOMETHING, even if it's not as much as we would like to do...that's how we'll make a difference; by never giving up and doing what we can and letting others to what they can.

Looks like a lil more than a "few hundred" that one media source stated.

I wish those were pictures of the march. Here is the actual crowd

2ndamendmentmarch.jpg

I guess 2 thousand at the most. I was disappointed at the crowd and even more disappointed to learn that the organizers were unable to get financial support Not one gun manufacturer gave any support. Only 2 even responded to decline. The NRA wouldn't give a dime but then showed up with a tent to recruit members.

More later

Yeah, those are "Tea Party" photos.

The SAM in DC wasn't that spectacular compared to the TP march.

Looks like there was a conflicting of interest with the SAM.

There was a separate march held just outside of DC at the same time that was actually an armed rally.

Had the two groups combined, they would have doubled their humbled numbers.

Nope. The article tries to play us off against each other. This was not the case. We wished them well with their event, and vice versa. Each group knew well in advance about the other event. Some speakers attended both events.

Says who? Maybe we got double the media coverage.

Could we have had more there? Yeah. But look at the positives. The NYT, WSJ, Washington Post, CNN, NPR, the LA Times, Drudge, HuffPo, CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp.), the Washington Times... even Aljazeera covered it on their website. The reports ranged from fair to grossly unfair.

And the hoplophobes are furious. Sugarmann, Horwitz, Brady, Helmke, etc. know about us. And they messed their pants at the thought of gunfolk exercising their rights near the District of Criminals.

People are starting to pay attention. And, much to the dismay of some in the press, I'm sure, guess what? No one died. No one went to jail. Nobody hit any counter-protestors.

I'm waiting on the Youtube videos of the speeches. I'm sure there were some great ones made.

We had some shortcomings, but don't think these events had no effect. I mostly agree with what this guy says:

Was the Second Amendment March a success?

Some pics there too.

Easy there, Hoss!

That wasn't a personal attack.

What I meant by "conflicting interest" was there was a conflict of interest between attendees. Not between the organizers.

Sorry, I guess I was a little defensive. I just know a few organizers that poured huge amounts of time/money into it. Kinda wish I had been in a position to do more. I blame my profs for assigning too much homework. And I blame TGO for being much more intriguing than studying. Speaking of which ... back to work.

I really enjoyed the trip, except for getting caught in a speed trap in washington Co VA. Up in the afternoon several secret service vehicles began showing up around the perimeter of the crowd, then these 2 guys appeared on a nearby roof. You can't see it in this picture but both were wearing sidearms. One guy was wearing a very heavy flac jacket. One had very long binoculars, the other had a large rifle case which he held for a few minutes then laid down and unpacked, producing a large rifle with a long scope. Several people that had binoculars were watching them watch us. Nobody seemed bothered by them. We were just waving our flags in there direction. After quite a while of being watched, we heard a helicopter coming in low. That wasn't too surprising since there had been quite a few circling during the day. As it got closer we could see it was the presidential copter. It came over quite low, below the top of the Washington monument, passed almost over the crowd moving very slow. The copter went over trees to the left of where I am looking in this picture and could be heard landing. I then found out that is where the White House is. In a few minute the copter took off an and flew off higher and faster than it had come in. Shortly after the copter left the sniper left also.

I feel pretty sure that the pres. got a look at us since I called my wife and she said the TV was showing him getting out of his chopper on the WH lawn

I have to say I am disappointed with the turn out. I figured more people would have showed up.

It was interesting watching the guys of the roof though. :)

From where I was sitting on the wall I saw a Tennessee flag in the crowd.
