They work "okay" for small touch-ups but I've seen this stuff come off eventually with some gun cleaning solvents. If it's an entire firearm or a larger part of one, I'd have it re-blued professionally rather than ghetto it with one of those pens.

I have had good results if you clean the area with acetone or degreaser and then rub the cold blu in with a 0000 steel wool a couple of times. I use Birchwood Casey Super Blu and Perma Blu. I have used 44/40 also with good results. If done properly it will not come off with gun solvents and works well on fine scratches and small marks. I would not recommend doing large areas.

I, too, have had good results with Birchwood Casey products. In my experience, if there is enough damage to warrant thoughts of having the gun reblued, then cold blue is likely to be unsatisfactory.
