Well not really. I have been studying for my Amateur Radio Technition class license just for something to do while laid off. Some of this stuff if more expensive than guns!

Ham can get very expensive, but most guys just buy used stuff which is a lot more affordable also once you get set up you don't have to keep buying stuff. I have been a ham since 1994 and I haven't bought anything in about 10 years.

good luck and keep at it, ham can be a very rewarding hobby.:rant:

I read your topic title, and the first thing I thought was, don't do amateur radio!

I've got more in radios than I do in my gun collection. You've heard of BRD (Black Rifle Disease), well hams have BRD also. Black Radio Disease.

Good luck taking the test. Study up and get your general license as well. You can take all the tests for one price.

Whatever you do, DON'T try coral reef aquariums if you want a cheap hobby. It's OMG expensive.
