Anyone own a Ruger SR556?

I have decided to buy a SR556 after the New Year when I have saved the money and (hopefully) the price will drop.

I was wondering how people that already own the rifle feel after buying one.

Any personal range reports, problems, customer service issues would also be welcome information.

Thanks!

It's tight, well built, and more accurate than I will ever be. The gas piston makes for a new shooting experence, almost no muzzle flip, the gun seems to take all that energy and place it firmly into recoil action. (maybe it was me but that's what it felt like).

I got mine for just over 1450.00 shipped, 1469.00 to be exact.

I've only shot about 100 round through it, found out at 100 yards I can't see the target without a scope and it's been raining (or I've had other stuff that had to be done) since.

Being the same age you are I can understand. Optics is a whole new ball of wax that I have not really looked in to. I have looked a little and was surprised that I will spend $600 (or more) on a scope.

Having said that I don't mind because in life you get what you pay for.

Zero it for 50 yards. It will shoot about 1.5" high at 100 yards and be spot on again at 200 yards. I'd be looking for something larger for beyond 200 yards anyway.

I don't know if it's just me, but my only complaint is that the SR556 felt a lot heavier than my AR-15. It's not the gun itself, it's the rails.

Gas piston AR's are in general a little heavier than traditional AR's, handguard length or not. But the Ruger's handguard certainly doesn't help matters, it's a beast.

Seems like a great gun though!

Weight.. who is worried about weight.. just reduces that felt recoil.. heck.. the ave. compeitive AR15 service rifle weighs in at about 14 lbs.
