The Navy says President Bush will present the nation's highest military award to the parents of a Navy SEAL who was killed while leading a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan.

The Navy says Lieutenant Michael Murphy of Patchogue, New York, is the first Medal of Honor recipient for combat in Afghanistan.

In June of 2005, Murphy led a four-man reconnaissance mission trying to find a key Taliban leader in advance of a mission to capture or destroy the local militia leadership. The Navy says Taliban sympathizers alerted fighters to the SEALs' positions, and the four men were quickly outnumbered and came under fire.

Even after being wounded, Murphy crawled into the open to make a radio call for help and still continued to fight. The president will present the medal to Murphy's parents on October 22nd.

If you haven't read the book "Lone Survivor" by Marcus Luttrell (the sole survivor of the SEAL mission mentioned above), I highly recommend it. It's a pretty powerful book.

Truly unbelievable story. This is where Rambo came from! Lutrell, even while having legs that were useless, hide in mud and a crevice on a hillside, after all his team had been killed, and continued to snipe Taliban for several days till rescued!
