Mod 50 Winchester Help

Anyone out there up on Winchester mod 50 shotguns? I'm going nuts with this one and it's probably simple. I can't get the round to feed out the tube and into the chamber. It will jam every time.

I know these need to be "timed" and I have gone through that whole process with adjusting the recoil spring through the butt stock. Doesn't matter where I set it still no feed. If I hand cycle rounds through it will feed once in a while and only if it's slammed home.

If I stick my finger up the mag tube I can feel a burr all the way around the tube but this seems intentional as it's about the same length as a 2 3/4 in shell.

These are great guns when they work. Is it the follower spring itself? Can't see why the recoil spring would have anything to do with it. Maybe it's time to either buy two new springs and install. If still a no go it's off to a gunsmith.

I'll bring this thread back to life and keep my fingers crossed that someone may know Model 50's. I am trying to find a gunsmith around here that knows them but no luck yet. I may have to send it out.

I just broke the whole gun down and cleaned and polished everything again. Recoil spring measure's 11.5" which seems right. Timing is adjusted by tightening the recoil spring until it's bottomed out and backing off until the bolt can be locked back and then adjust so you can move bolt back an additional 3/16 of an inch. Everything seems right.

With empty chamber and bolt back it will not pick one up out of the mag when sliding bolt forward. With help I can get one out of the mag but it will not feed up into the chamber. Stovepipes every time.

Any ideas?

Thanks to fellow TGOer 243win I have resolved the feeding problem I was having with my model 50. An .85 cent carrier lock spring was the culprit. Cycles fine by hand now so a range test and it'll be ready. Hat's off to 243win!!
