Saturday I went to my grandmothers to do some badly needed repair to the fascia, soffit, roof, and porch.

While rooting around in her garage I found an old Daisy pop gun. Not sure which of us grandkids had it (me or a cousin being the likely candidates). I asked if I could bring it home for the 4yr old grandson (her great-greatgrandson).

I showed it to him getting his normal "a gun" response, then I cocked it and shot it with a nice little POP. His face went to a rapturous grin. After I showed him how to cock it, he went to his dad in the kitchen (who was beside me when I gave it too him) so excited he couldn't remember who I was just "daddy, daddy, he gived me this and it pops".

He spent the evening shooting bad guys and monsters on the TV and in the house. At 0300 I could still hear him click-POP in the bed in the dark. He spent Sunday shooting squirrels throught the living room glass.

Earlier in the week he wanted to sleep with papaw. He had been shootin' bad guys and monsers with his plastic Beretta 92 (with crack and moving slide!). At bed time he pulled out the waist band of his PJ's and stuffed his B92 in crossdraw. I asked him why. He whispered "I might hav ta shoot a bad guy or monser tonight."

Yeah kids are amazing. I can't wait til the day I can take my daughter to shoot for the first time. That has the potential to be one of the happiest days of my life.

did you teach him how to shove the muzzle end in the dirt to fill it. Gives the gun something to really shoot LOL

Great story. Just make sure you write some of those down now while you remember the details. Those will make some priceless memories in years to come.
