Women and Open carry?

Recommended Posts

So I had this thought last night while talking with my wife. I wonder if a woman is less likely to get "singled" out by other shoppers or a store employee if she is open carrying instead of a man OC'ing?

Please don't turn this into a CC vs OC debate. I am just wondering how our society view guns in regards to gender even though we all pass the same BG check.

I've commented to that effect before. I think it's less likely to cause a stir if it's a woman, and especially if it's a woman who dresses nicely. I think it's because an armed woman seems more "defensive" and less "menacing" to the general public.

I'd be more likely to turn and run if I saw a woman packin' heat! :D

No seriously though, I think most people would feel less threatened by the fact that a woman was carrying. Perhaps rightfully so. Fewer violent crimes are perpetrated by women.

You sure? Seems like every report I see in east TN has some ugly woman's mug shot in it. In fact, there was a stabbing this morning in West Knox with a...ummm..."beautiful" involved!

I've never seen a woman OC (just female police officers.) This is a good question, one for a woman who OC's (and is carrying for self defense purposes only.)

I asked 2 guys: one says yes, in that seeing a woman open carry is a rare sight (except women cops!) The other says no, in that gender isn't an issue, the only issue being the gun (as in why do they have a gun in the first place?)
