i would say this depends on you, are you looking for something that is simple to operate and can take a beating, and you can trust your life with, or something pretty for an investment, never to be fired.....

i have a Glock 23 , i have fired almost every single glock style made and the .40 is what i feel is the most accurate and suits my needs best, its a personal choice

but if i were thinking more investment vs. practical, i would look towards a wheel gun, the price normally stays in the same area as it started, and will still function simply if needed. i would suggest a .357 mag

but there are a ton of people out there that feel that a .45 is the best so a 1911 would not be a bad choice, it is battle proven weapon......

but it is what you like that matters, i would say buy them all.....

but for an investment old Colts, Rems, and Winchesters, are probably the safest and most collected as far as hand guns

Glock 17 is probably most popular gun in my opinion.

Next choice is any 1911 pistol.

Glock 19 is and has been for awhile the most polpular gun in general. Especially for Glock. You could talk to many gun owners that have another brand.Ask them if they didnt havve that brand the Common answer is a Glock 19. I would think Glock is the most popular brand. Other than that any of the 1911 models...

The ammunition shortage is a sure sign that if things get much worse, guns would render themselves useless without a reloader....

If you do want to stock up anyway, I would buy Sig, Sig, Sig

There are two schools of thought about buying firearms. One is buying affordable but popular firearms that can be sold fairly easily and quickly. Glocks and basic 1911's would fit in this catagory. The other approach is purely a collector thing and like buying a house that appreciates every year... you buy the most expensive you can afford if you are rising in your career financially because appreciating a larger number yields more dollars with the same rate of return. With guns, it is all about what is popular to collectors and buying those guns to save for a rainy day. Buy the best condition you can afford. Right now it seems to be Colt Pythons and Diamondbacks. The pre-lock Smith revolers will eventually be very desireable unless Smith shifts back to making guns without the lock. It is definitely a crystal ball kind of thing. You're better off buying stocks or lately precious metals.

People say it is not what you earn but what you save. That is true, but saving 10% of 100K salary is a lot different than saving 10% of a 25K salary. Who can afford the vacation to Hawaii?

Just my ...

Right now is not the time to get great entry prices on firearm investments of any type. Once Obama is ousted and a more firearm friendly conservative is in place, prices/values will be lower. That's the time to enter for investments.

Now is time to stock water, food, clothing and gas for the generator. Just in case the shtf.

It seems that my Sig has appreciated much more than my Glock. The other thing to keep in mind are guns that are not imported anymore. SKS's and other military, no longer produced guns that are now limited in number are good ideas.

For investment firearms anything with a pony on it or pre 64 Winchester. For protection, anything HK.

For fun,my newest favorite is the FNH 5.7X28 by far the funnest handgun I had ever fired.I like it so much I ordered another one along with another 1000 rounds of ammo
