Goodman's Nashville Gun Shows... No More? Any truth to this?

Reportedly, and verified by a few different sources now, the Metro Nashville Government has told Bill Goodman's Gun Shows that they are no longer welcome at the Fair Grounds because they just don't want that sort of thing happening in Nashville anymore.

Nice. :P

Update for 10/14/09...

The Goodman camp is refuting these claims vigorously as was reported here:

http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/events-gatherings/28753-goodmans-nashville-gun-shows-no-more-any-truth-2.html#post378255

I'm quite happy to hear that this may just be an unfounded rumor after all. Sadly, with the Bloomberg thugs working over the gun shows and the Metro Nashville ruling elite treating our 2nd Amendment rights with flippant disregard, this scenario seemed all too plausible.

Guess we'll see what develops in the weeks ahead.

What? Typical... just typical... :P

What's the real reason? (hypothetical question - I know the answer)

Presumably in direct response to the alleged issues with the NYC / Bloomberg staged investigation?

'Bout right.

Would the fact the fair ground is scheduled to close have any to do with the story?

Goodman has been at the fair grounds in Nashville for a long time.

I believe there is a multitude of buildings decent enough to house gun shows all over TN; people that would love to host such events. We'll probably have even more of these show in lieu of this movement.

What exactly is "that sort of thing"?

Commerce?

No, what I was told is that Metro has told the Goodman Show that it is no longer welcome to operate inside Metro Nashville. Period. I have now heard this from several people, one of whom is an attorney and somewhat privy to this sort of information.

I would suspect that more information will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead, perhaps even from the Goodman folks. I think it's a bunch of crap but nothing that Komrade Karl Dean does anymore surprises me.

Commerce, freedom, liberty... you know. The stuff that makes downtown Nashville such an unsafe place to be.

I e-mailed Goodman:

My E-mail:

It has been rumored that Metro Nashville Government has told you that your gun shows are no longer welcome @ the Tn State Fairgrounds. Is there any truth to this

His response:

Negative. The Fair is no longer, therefore they dont need a fair board. Effective June 30, 2010 the Fair property reverts to the City (Metro). After June 30th we believe that the city will continue to manage the property as long as they are making money.

I sent them a link to this thread. Perhaps it's something they aren't aware of yet.

If what I was told was accurate, there's no way they couldn't know. I'm anxious to see what the report is.

More replys:

Nashvillle Metro has NOT contacted me regarding this. Its all rumor.

Then:

In reality, a “straw purchase” is when a person buys a gun for another person and the other person is not allowed to buy a gun himself. Therefore if that is what is portrayed in the video then the Bloomberg people hired Felons to conduct their investigation?

No laws were broken and thats why there are no arrests either.....

Now...ME talking

I don't think it was straw pruchases...it was selling to the person...in person...that couldn't pass a background check.

Perhaps it IS true and Goodmans is trying to find alternate arrangements before letting the news out...perhaps its Karls wet dream...time will indeed tell

I really don't want to turn this thread into conjecture about why it may have happened IF it has. Firstly I wondered if anyone else had heard the same and could substantiate the claims. Secondly, if it were true, then it would be further example of just how far off base the Metro ruling elite have wandered.

Anyway... just seemed rather odd that I heard about it from two different sources, neither of whom know each other, and both within 2hrs of one another.

I told you Dean's probably been sharing spit in the shower with Bloomberg. :D

FWIW, if it's true I really hope that they fight this nonsense. Anything that affects one of us as 2nd Amendment supporting, liberty loving citizens, affects all of us.

This wouldn't surprise me at all if true. Once the fairground's property comes under city control, under this Mayor the gun show's gone. Don't forget, as soon as HB962 got overridden by the Legislature, Dean had his law department looking for ways to keep guns out of restaurants and bars. There's no question he would have used the beer board if he could.

When I read this last night my first thought was to ask some friends that always set up and sell at the Goodman show. They just got the following email reply apparently from David Goodman

Absolutely false. Whoever is started the rumor needs to be booted from the blog.

We have signed contracts and are engaged in lawful business. Pls set the record straight.

I will advise anyone who is starting false rumors to cease and desist.

Dont confuse the Fair which has been discontinued with the Gun Show. The fairboard is disolving as of June 30, 2010 and the property will then be taken over by Metro department. They are just transfering control.

I'm happy to hear that the rumor is false, then. In light of that, I am closing this thread unless something else comes up that makes it a valid course of discussion again.

Never know!

This tidbit was received by a TGO member from their Metro councilman...

There has been no cancellation of shows at this time. The Mayor and Board is closing the grounds on June 30, 2010. At that time all events here will cease.

There are efforts to find a suitable place for these type of events. Hopefully, there will be a place found for Mr. Goodman, and other vendors. Thank you for your

question.
