Anyone here ever tried bow hunting during gun season? Suggestions?

I like hunting with my bow and want to hunt all season with it.

I'm not against gun hunting just something about the bow.

Have done it. Works better if the area you hunt doesn't get a lot of pressure.

That said if your area gets alot of pressure get as close to the bedding area as you can.

I don't even own a deer rifle. I've always bowhunted the entire season. Of course, I'm not hunting to feed my family either. I'm doing it entirely for fun.

I went traditional only about 10 years ago, first with a recurve and now I've been longbow only for about 7 years. It's just too much fun. The most fun is when the tree rats are feeding on the ground heavy. Sometimes I've emptied a full quiver on the rascals from one stand.

Anywho, like others have said, if the area you hunt is not heavily hunted, bow hunting during gun season can be productive. A good plan is to find an area that is a safe zone for deer, and when the surrounding areas are pressured by gun hunters, deer will come to these safe areas to bed and hang out until dark. I've had good success with dense cover areas inside wooded places, like a place that was clear cut inside a larger, wooded area. If its been allowed to hair over and grow up a bit, deer will use it for cover during the day. Find the travel routes on the edges of these places and set up for close, covered shots.

Good luck,

John
