Dissapointed about Fobus Holster

So I ordered a Fobus Holster a few weeks ago for my ruger p95. With the cold coming on fast and since most trips I make are quick to the store, at least the trips I can carry on, I needed a quick to put on reliable holster.

So I went with the Fobus, it was cheap and the complaints I found about it seemed absurd so I took a chance since it seemed to fit my needs.

Recieved it today and tried it out. Put my firearm (unloaded) into the holster which required an EXTREME amount of force for a holster. And then started looking for my dremel tool as the holster failed to release the weapon. After a brief thought I decided to bypass the power tool option and just tug the gun out. Which was successful after many attempts.

The retention is absurbed for a holster! You can most definitely hold the gun upside down without it falling out, but you must pull it PRECISELY straight out of the holster for it to release, and even then you must use far too much force.

If I found myself in a situation I would not want to rely on this gear. I know many people love fobus holsters, but this one is not for me. Though the holster did appear to be very well made and sturdy from what I could tell.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up incase you were considering one of these holsters. Again, the company lived up to every promise and I was handled with great satisfaction, but there product is simply not for me. If I want that much retention, I need to be able to quickly and easily release that tention very very quickly.

That's the same way I felt when I bought my first Fobus!!!

If the BG doesn't shoot me, I'll shoot myself getting the darn thing out of the holster!

Never fear. There are ways to loosen it up and it'll be great for what you paid for it. It will always require a quick "snap" draw though. Google it and you'll fine the answers you seek.

Did you loosen the screw below the trigger guard that adjusts the holster's amount of retention? I have not had a problem with my holster. I can loosen the screw so that the pistol will fall out if held upside down, tighten the screw so the pistol can not even be shaken out while being held upside down, or somewhere in between these extremes.

I had the same problem with my Ruger P89 and the Fobus. I sold the Fobus to a friend. His son wanted one. I bought a Uncle Mikes which has a screw tah you can adjust to the right retion. I like it a lot. I got the belt holster. But with the Uncle Mikes, you can buy a paddel that will fit on the holster. gearyr.

I have one for a Ruger P345. When I got it, it was very tight as you describe it. I cut one of the rivots out and put a spacer between the two halves, and it was much improved. As far as drawing it, you have to practice it for sure, otherwise, you will pull the gun and holster off your belt together. I guess that is good or bad. I do not typically carry it in that holster, but it does have its useful times.
