Well, in the two flintlocks that I have, a .50 caliber and a .62 caliber, I cast them myself. A .490 roundball for the .50 caliber, and a .600 roundball for the .62 caliber.....

Now that's REAL muzzle loading. I had my run with the flintlocks and I love the heck out of em'. Cast my own balls and make my own patches and stuff too. Alas, times for "fun" guns are pretty much over. Got to keep it "practical" so a good Mossberg 500 with an extra bbl. and a S&W M64 are about all I'm keeping. Maybe someday I'll get back into it, that dang black powder gets into your blood and you can never shake it but until then got to keep it practical.

I am using Pyrodex, 20 grains and .454 or .451 round lead balls.

Basically I load it like this. 20 grains of Pyro, top off cylinder with some instant grits, seat the ball, cover balls with Crisco. Topping off the cylinder with grits puts the ball just below the edge of the cylinder and allows for full compression of everything in the cylinder. This has made the revolver more accurate than I initially thought it was.

Too much fun to shoot. The Pyro is a little cleaner than BP but just as smokey :koolaid:

.530 PRBs over a suitable charge of FFFg black powder.
