My wife and I are in town for the weekend just to get away from Memphis. Can anyone recommend an outdoor range in the area? There aren't any in the Memphis area other than MSSA and indoor ranges kinda freak her out a little so I thought I would ask y'all for some input. Also any suggestions on other stuff to do wouldn't hurt either. We are staying off of Briley Pkwy. Thanks.

You could go by the Opryland Hotel and walk thru the gardens and ride the flatboats. It's on Briley Parkway.

Cock of the Walk has good catfish.......there's Opry Mills mall if your wife is a shopper. Centennial Park and the Parthenon for sight seeing and history type stuff.

The Titans are in town this week, hosting the Colts :usa:. I'm sure there's plenty of good seats still available for that one.

Everyone, thanks for the info. Nashville is our default duck out spot when we feel the need for a quick minute away from Mempho, but it is always a good idea to get tips from the locals. We already hit Opry Mills Mall, have to every time we come into town, lol. As long as weather permits we will be heading to Stones River, only 15 miles from the hotel.

Ok, then you know to park at the Opry Mills Mall and walk over to the Opryland hotel, to avoid the parking fees.

FYI: On Stones River - Make sure every gun is in a gun case - or you will have to rent them... They prefer you do not carry loaded firearms into the gun range - Safety First. So disarm before going in, even if you have a permit to carry. $5 per person to get in - NO silhouette targets and no picture targets - like Osama or zombies. They will give you free xerox targets and do sell reactive targets. They are more busy on Saturday. I find hitting the range at opening on Sunday (1:30ish) gets you right in.

Since they gave you a few places to visit and activities...

There is a RK gun show at the Williamson County AG Center (think 20 minutes south of downtown on I-65 Exit 61) - but the shows have not been good of late... kinda small.

You could go to downtown - Broadway area - it has some good country and western bars.

If she likes to shop - take her to Franklin TN and go downtown (off Exit 65, I-65 south of Nashville.) Eclectic shops and restaurants.

Speaking of Restaurants, Check out Monell's (family style southern food) near the Germantown area or Demo's for Italian on 3rd downtown.

Or you could go on a Duck Tour, since you like to "duck" into Nashville

Thanks for the suggestion of stones river, everyone there was super helpful and took extra time with my wife and I to help me help her get over her fears and become more at ease with firearms. One of the RSOs (Barb) loaned my wife a set of electronic EPs as the ones we brought weren't quite sufficient to dampen the sound to a comfortable level. There was even a guy a few lanes over who offered to let my wife shoot his Sig 2022 (which she really liked) when he noticed she was having some trouble with my 1911. We had an awesome time and will come back next time we are in town.
