Magpul ASAP GRRRR!!!

Recommended Posts

Has anybody installed a Magpul ASAP sling adapter? I just purchased a nearly $40 dollar DPMS multi tool to tighten the nut back onto the buffer extension, but the design of the Magpul ASAP or the design of the DPMS multi tool is not allowing me to properly seat the wrench. Thus I'm not able to tighten the nut.

I'm sure I could wrap some duct tape over the nut and use a pipe wrench but it's frustrating to spend $40 bucks on a tool you probably won't use again. BAH!

I'm hoping maybe I'm just dense and I'm missing something, or somebody has a tip or trick to make it work.

Thanks a lot!

Yeah, I didn't have much trouble aside from finding my rear takedown pin detent spring after it launched across the room.

Have you tried getting purchase on the castle nut from every angle with the wrench? I noticed that clearance was scarce, but it didn't prevent me from getting it. Maybe you could get us a picture of what you're doing?

No problem here, I have a fairly large wrench from bushmaster or someplace like such. Just remember to stake or loctite the mount down as they can come loose.

I'm not familiar with loctite. If I want to remove the nut on the buffer tube is it easy to remove the loctite?

Depends on what type and how much heat you apply.

Point is you don't want things to move. I staked mine.

Blue Loctite will be fine. You can break the bond with force, if you use red, it requires heat to break the bond.

With all this loctite talk, it is important to remember the function and position of the castle nut. It it much less likely to come unscrewed and much less important if it does than, say, your gas key. Also, you will notice it if it begins to loosen, unless you are really unobservant. Unless you are really paranoid about it, I would just tighten it down pretty good and not worry about it.

Thanks for the help guys. I decided to trade the sling adapter and get a YHM adapter that I'm actually able to use with my multi tool.

Kelemvor, you have a good point. I'll just keep the multi tool in my range bag and tighten it when it needs it.

If you still have the ASAP I'll take it off your hands.
