Stolen Freightliner Daycab

I know there's a very slim chance anyone on TGO knows anything about this, but I told my boss that I'd post it anywhere I could think of.

Someone decided they needed one of our trucks more than we did.

This truck was taken sometime between 5:00pm on Friday, October 02, 2009 and 5:00am on Monday, October 05, 2009.

The thief or thieves attempted to steal another one of our trucks at the same time, but for some reason they were not successful.

Thankfully they did not need/want the trailer, and were kind enough to properly disconnect the two before driving off with the truck.

That is about all I know at this time.

Here is a picture that will give a general idea of what the truck looks like. The actual truck is a very close match to the truck I've pictured, but the actual bpi lettering on the actual truck can't compare to my custome lettering, but don't let that throw you off if you happen to see this truck anywhere.;)

Our trucks are leased through Penske, but they never picked it up. We have visited all of the (very few) shops that do any work for us.

Because another truck was tampered with, they are quite certain it's been stolen.

Of course they have insurance, but it's still going to cost the company at least $10,000. And being an employee owned company, I don't like taking such a hit.

I'll keep an eye out for it.

Honestly, I'm surprised they got one truck and not the other. In my experience, most fleet trucks are keyed alike. The last time I worked 'in house' for a trucking company, all our 'Brand X' trucks took Key Y, all of our 'Brand C' trucks took Key A, etc...

I take it y'all don't have GPS systems on the trucks?

Keep us updated on this. I've wondered how a stolen truck would play out. Theoretically, I would think it would get tagged at the first weigh station it went through after being reported stolen. However, if it never left the city, might be far easier for it to go away...

Those guys only at weigh stations only look for lady truck drivers, very dirty trucks so they can mess with them and the ones that crack the scales as overweight. If they see two tags a day they have done a weeks work!

Sorry for any of you scale house employees that may happen to have read the above moderately satirical diatribe.

I disagree! I have been stopped in Manchester when several thousand pounds under weight, and gone through in some of the worst looking, cobbled together trucks you can imagine. I know one driver that got pulled in and inspected because our company runs clean, well maintained trucks, and the THP officer needed to get one more inspection done. Our rig looked quick and easy, so our guy got stopped.

Okay, in a round about way, you made the point. When they gotta make a number and its quitting time, what did he do?

The Brownsville scale knows us well since we go through there about 18 times a day. They let all our guys go through but the one woman that drives for us has more inspections in a year than all our other Memphis drivers combined! Stats can lie but you can infer from them certain things. Guess why she drives the new stuff ?

Not all of our trucks have GPS sytems, including the missing truck. This may be one of the reasons this truck was chosen, but all they have to do is cut the GPS wire. So, I'm not sure how much of a part that did or didn't play inot the theft.

I saw one just like that today...even had bpi on it.

Unfortunately though the lettering was in the form of a decal,instead of Crayola....sorry!

Unfortunately, the decal mode on MS had a little too much to drink that night.

It wouldn't be uncommon for anyone to see other BPI trucks around Tennessee, but all of them should be pulling BPI trailers.
