At 1:30 p.m. today, a male approached a woman on campus in the gravel area between Murphy Center and the track, put a gun in her ribs and demanded money. The woman refused, and the man fled on foot in the direction of the Boutwell Dramatic Arts Building. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6' to 6'3" tall, medium build, wearing black sagging pants, an off-white or cream-colored sweatshirt with a hood, and a black ball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact University Police at 898-2424 or Crimestoppers at 893-7867. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.

The suspect is described as being in his early 20's. According to the victim, he was pretending to be talking on a cell phone as she walked by; then he approached her.

Other details are surfacing. The assailant's cream-colored sweatshirt also had several brown camouflage-type splotches on it. The female student was walking from the CyberCafe toward the Greenland parking lot area. The assault actually took place between the football and baseball fields along the fenced area. The victim said she noticed the suspect walking in front of her talking on his cell phone. He turned around and walked toward her and passed her. He then turned again, walked up to her from behind and put the gun against her torso.

Gosh, he was walking in front of her and stopped and turned around then turned around again and none of that caught her attention? Sorry if you stop suddenly and start walking back towards me I am getting a little curious and keeping a little eye on you. If you then turn around again and start heading towards me, well, I am going to beat a retreat since this is on a campus and I can't have a gun there.
