The Ronnie Barrett Story

Recommended Posts

Posted

I was talking with someone the other day, and was interested in the fact that there is currently a book being written about the great Ronnie Barrett of Barrett Firearms Manufacturing.

Chances are, many of us have heard of Ronnie Barrett, and maybe know a little about his past. But if you're like me, you never gave much thought about "who" the man really is, or where he came from.

After reading a little at Wikipedia: Ronnie Barrett, I'm quite anxious to learn more about him.

I had no clue about how the Barrett 50 cal. was born. A pretty interesting story.

In the last 100 years, only four individuals have invented firearms adopted by the United States Military. Three were John Browning, John C. Garand, and Eugene Stoner, who had their designs turned over to another industry or the government for development and production. Barrett is the only one to create, manufacture, market and mass-produce his firearm for the United States government, (with the exception of California Law-Enforcement agencies due to California's ban on .50-caliber firearms).

That. Is. Awesome.

I think they forgot about the Beretta M9.

The Beretta M9 was not invented by a single individual and then adopted into service by DoD as were the weapon systems designed by Browning, Stoner, Garand, and Barrett.

My mistake . I should do a little more research before I speak. Does anyone know who the 4th was?

Err..., Browning, Garand, Stoner, and Barrett.

I'm not sure why anyone would intentionally try to embarrass him like that.

Thats been so long im sure hes past the embarassment stage. If nothing else it was a nice impromptu demonstration of its effectiveness :D

(I however wouldnt have the stones to ask him about that unless I knew him personally)

You wont, its kinda inside information, the only public reference that I can remember given about it was on the history channel when they were telling about the career of Charlie Wilson from Charlie Wilson's War.

Anyway, Im sure he gets a kick out of it now. I probably shouldnt have mentioned it.
