I dabble on occasions but other than a few around town I haven't done many.

I use a Garmin Zumo 550.

I have a couple of Garmins but haven't found the time and weather to do much yet.

Maybe this winter . . . .

Garmins fail, but a map and a compass rarely do.

So I use a 1:50000 topo map and a standard lensatic compass.

Garmin gps60cs in hand, Garmin gps18 plugged into the laptop on the road, cachemate software on a pda, and GSAK software on the laptop to manage waypoints and cache info on the other three things. Other useful things are a flashlight, multitool, camera, inkpen, hiking stick, and a firearm.

The closest I ever came to pulling a gun on someone was while geocaching late at night in the woods next to a rest area on I40 but that is another story.

I signed up for it, and went on maybe one or two,but quickly learned its not a fun game for us lazy folks that doesn't like getting out of their vehicles

Prepare to open fire on the ignorant one............

What is geocaching?

Hide and seek for nerds.

People set up hidden" catches" in public places, and give gps cords. and hints on how to find it.

Once you find it you sign a log and maybe get a small prize.

What is geocaching? :tough:

GPS/Map based "treasure" hunt.

Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site

Friends in 'Bama are into it, I've been on several with them. Last one was the probable burial ground of John Henry near Vincent, Al.

Another nifty one turned out to be the KKK state history plaque in Pulaski, TN, which is bolted face in to the wall on the original lawyers' office.

The better the "story" behind it, particularly if true, the better the cache, IMHO.
