TAP Discussion: Racism in America

Tonight! TAP's Progressive Thought Discussion Group is tonight,

Monday, October 8th, 7 to 8:30 pm at the Eastwood Christian Church,

16th Street and Eastland Avenue in East Nashville.

The subject will be racism in America. Keith Caldwell of the

newly-formed Urban Epicenter, based in North Nashville, Deirdre Reed,

former organizer for Tying Nashville Together and a representative from

the Black Covenant Association will join us to talk about organizing

and attending the Jena 6 demonstration in Jena, Louisiana. Ten busloads

of people from Nashville went to Louisiana for the demonstration. The

questions we will touch on include: Why are the Jena 6 students

important to the struggle against racism in America today? Why did the

black community rally around the Jena 6? Why has the case received much

less publicity in the white community? How does racism play out today

in our criminal justice system? In our health care system? In our

education system? How can the black, immigrant and white communities

come together to create a society free of racism and prejudice? What is

white privilege and what can whites do to overcome racism in our

society?

All are welcome to join this provocative discussion.

I honestly didnt know whether to put this in announcements or the humor section. But we don't have a humor section here so....

Just proof that those "reverends" that come out of the woodwork every time someone will put a camera in front of them about "race issues" aren't really reverends at all and the NAACP is just as racist if not more so (because they try to deny it and say they aren't) then the KKK.

I was more reacting to the org and its agenda, and I do mean agenda.

What do you suppose would happen if I showed up and said, Black people get more preferences and breaks than any other group in America in the last 50 years. And they still aren't cutting it. Maybe their lack of success has more to do with the cultur than with any alleged white racism. Maybe if people stopped pissing and moaning and waiting for someone else to give them something else things would be different. Maybe if they worked their butts off like virtually every other immigrant and minority group in this country has they might achieve something other than permanent victimhood.

Somehow I don't think I would be asked back.

Ahhh... The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. What a wonderful organization. I wonder when they'll update the name of their organization to "National Association for the Advancement of African Americans...?

Now, before this becomes a bashing thread... let's all be clear that it is not the ethnic makup of the NAACP et al or the 'reverends' which is the problem. It is their attitude and hypocrisy which is so distasteful.

That's because they are still expecting handouts. I have no problem with anybody (black, white, mexican, cuban, whoever) that tries to better themselves, goes to school and learns something and then goes out into society and actually becomes productive. I DO have a problem with the "THUGS" and "DOPE DEALERS" that would rather sit on their a$$ and pull youngsters down into their "easy life" only to create another "little gangster". I DO have a problem with the ones that would rather break into your house or mine to steal something to sell for money to buy drugs or other things instead of getting a job and buying things with their own d*** money. Who the he11 do they think they are saying that "we white folks or certain members of society" owe them an appology for things that were to do with our ancesters back in the day. I am not going to say sorry if my great-great-great who ever that MIGHT have owned a slave. I had nothing to do with that, this is the here and now ...... move the he11 on and quit looking for a handout. Am I racist ......maybe a little but the way I see it our races in this country is what makes us unique. The way things are going there will be only one race in the world and that will be a mixture of all races.

Some of my ancestors were Polish Jews (the ones that made it out, anyways)... you won't find me whining or expecting anything because of that*. The whole mindset that events from generations ago somehow prevent responsible social development is ludicrous.

*(Heck, it's still rarely even a good idea to admit having Polish 'heritage' unless one has a good sense of humor...)

This whole Jena 6 thing is so ridiculous I don't even know what to say. Bus loads of people going down to "support" a kid that has a record of violence and helped beat another kid unconscious. What is this country coming to?

Well they don't pay taxes, or for medical insurance either!! All they do is multiply......

Actually they pay more taxes here than in most states. They have to pay sales tax just like you and I.
