My 1911 virginity that is...

Picked this up this weekend. I've been wanting a GI style 1911 bad for a long time now, and finally settled on the Springfield GI.45

It's my first 1911, and I couldn't be happier. It's the best feeling thing I've ever held in my hands (well almost... but this is a family forum) I love the feeling of solid metal - not some piece of tupperware. I always hear people yakking about what a genius J.M. Browning was with respect to designing this gun... Now I understand.

A good choice for your first 1911. I think you'll find, as jHatmaker says, it won't be your last. My first was a Colt Officer's model, an early 70's Auto Ordnance, a very old Remington Rand ex-service pistol, and then a high-priced toy--a 945 S&W Performance Center Micro 45. But my current favorite is a Springfield LW Champion Operator. Very Accurate! It's a short-barrel commander size and feeds everthing I've put thru it. With the aluminum frame it's a handful, but 185 grain fmj or jhp seem to be the best load for it. You'll enjoy getting to know the Springfield.

Welcome to the club! I'm on my 5th (and have kept all priors) and won't stop there... Even though I love the plastic guns, I still daily a Springfield 45, and weekend shoot my others. I just can't carry anything else, and nothing shoots the same to me.
