Accident....BIG OOPS...

I did one in 1973. Hopefully my last. Never lower the hammer on a live round with a Colt SAA. I guess you shouldn't do that with a 1911 either, but I've never tried it. Guess I learned my lesson. No blood involved, but not due to my efforts - thank ya, Lord!

How about, "Never lower the hammer (manually or via a decocker) on a chambered round unless the muzzle is pointed in a SAFE direction"?

I have my own set of corollaries to the 4 rules.

I have seen a few accident victims, my brothers roof, my uncles truck, my dad's roof( done by my uncle) my other uncles roof( done by his son), I am proud to say the only holes in my house have been done by the termites. NO I am not knocking on wood it might fall down. ( just kidding:D) I guess it goes back to B-ball days NO blood no foul.

Dang, don't bother inviting me to your family reunion.:tough:

I went on the search for the said projectile this evening. First I slid my mini mad light into the hole in the floor(perfect fit). The light beam went through the subfloor, passed 0.000001mm by the a/c duct, through the plastic and about 8 inches into the hard red clay.... It looked like some "forensic files" stuff...

Dug it out and cleaned it up. Just a little disfigured.

I just thank GOD that it was pointed down.!!! Sorry for the poor quality photo. I killed my camera a while back and had to use my cell phone...

Lol.. It fell off of a smoke stack in Puerto Rico. About 200'. Nothing left of it...

I know two people who have discharged (supposedly unloaded) firearms while cleaning. Unfortunately one shot himself in the hand. The other shot through the kitchen wall and flattened the rear tire on his car.

Ok, Pan glad you are ok and did not do much damage to your house.

I wish I had kept the pic of the 3" hole that was in my living room wall. Wasnt from my pistol, I was at work...but me and the roommate learned a good lesson. Also learned how to patch drywall. ;)

when I was in Somalia you had to clear before you went into the COC and I can't tell you how many LT's but rounds into the barrell and ran like hell so they would not get caught by a senior officer

What rounds was he using? Thru the wall, flatten a tire...impressive.

That is why I always recommend against decocking manually, even with good intentions bad things could happen. glad no one was hurt. take your wife out to dinner :)
