I've seen a .357 go through the back of a couch, 2 walls, the back of a dresser, a dresser drawer full of clothing, and into the front of the dresser drawer.

Not sure it would have gone much further, but the only thing that prevented it from doing so was the decorative metal plate that the drawer handle was connected to.

Very bad idea with a 1911. The firearm was designed to be carried cocked and locked. If you want to carry it with the hammer down, you need to just leave the chamber empty.

I'd have to cut out that section...frame it...and put it on the wall of my shop as a reminder...everybody makes mistakes. Luckily everybody (except the comforter) lived through this one. Thanks for posting...we all need reminders.

Wow, Glad you and your family are OK. When your pulse get's back to normal, instead of beating yourself up over this, look at it this way, you are more aware of gun safety at this time than any class could have taught you. Also by having the "nads" to share the story, you may have made the rest of us be a little more careful

Glad you didn't get hurt. Many people are surprisingly unprepared for the 1911 pistol and how to properly use it.

They are among the safest guns out there, but only if you know how to use them. IMHO they are so ubiquitous that people just assume that they are like any other revolver, glock, etc. and treat them as such.

Folks read up...Most people here do, in fact, know the ins and outs of the 1911. HOWEVER - If any reader here is a new shooter/owner with a 1911 and haven't spent at least 2 or 3 hours at home (unloaded) familiarizing with their proper use, loading, unloading, takedown, carry modes, and so on...Learn from this experience.

Thanks for posting this. I don't have a 1911 yet but plan on getting one soon. You may have just saved MY mattress in the future. BTW, that entry wound is impressive! Tell the wife you were just looking for an excuse to take her shopping.

I too would be interested in seeing pics of the rest of the carnage. Helluva "war" story for sure!
