I find that I'm going to have to do some climbing (not for sport) and need to find a safety belt so when I get to the top I can hook myself off and work. No one around here even acts like they know what I'm looking for. Any suggestions? (Besides keep my big butt grounded).:D

Try Safety Harness for fall protection harnesses.

You'll need a tether also.

A belt will just get you killed if you fall. Hanging upside down for hours is not pleasant to say the least.

Appreciate that, I mainly want it so I can climb up a ladder to a roof hatch in a store and tie off so I can have both hands free. Hard to wok when you are hanging on for dear life.:P

Sounds like you're talking about a tongue buckle body belt. I wouldn't recommend using one without a harness either, but they do serve some useful purposes when used in conjunction with a harness.

edit: Also, you should be able to find a source online that will teach you how to tie a rope climbing harness for temporary use. I used to climb in school with a rope harness.

I might have a harness you can have for the cost of shipping. New. I'll check today.

I don't think I have a lanyard at the moment though.

I'll check when I get home.

PM me if you're interested or have questions. I'm an Occupational Safety Specialist, by training.

PS,

Don't use a belt for anything but RESTRAINT. If you can use on the prevent falling, like a leash, it's ok, but falling into one can cause injury or death. That's why industry doesn't use them anymore.

Yes that's what I'm looking for. I'm not worried about slipping, I just need to "tie off" so I can work.

Where I'm goning to be using it will be no chance of getting fried, or hit in the head with anything. Just want to tie off. As big as I am it would make a hella of a dent in the floor.:P

Sounds like you are talking about a ladder belt like we used to use in the FD. We would clip to the top rung and lean back so we could use our hands freely... look online for Fire Dept supply places. It's just a wide belt with a large round carabiner to clip on to large rungs.

If he's using it for work, and not personal/home use, a ladder belt would be contrary to OSHA regulations. FD's don't have to follow the same regs for fall protection that Construction and General Industry do.

I just answered your PM. I forgot how close you are to me. I can meet up with you somewhere to drop it off, then you'll just need a lanyard.

Northernsafey.com has their brand pretty cheap.

A good ol' swiss seat. Used them in the Army of course. Found a video on a kid looks like JROTC - showing how to do a swiss seat

one thing he forgot to mention was DO NOT CROSS THE ROPES... trust me on that one.

Guy's, Arko was nice enough to GIVE me exactly what I could use and still be in compliance just in case the OSHA people happen to stop by.

Arko, many thanks.:D
