That was the time a couple of buddies went with me and we did the Appalachian Trail in the Park in six days. This would have been the next to last day with a stay that night at Mollie's Ridge shelter. That was a steep hike up to the shelter. We renamed that part "Mollie's Hump" since you needed to screw yourself to get up the ridge to it at the end of a long day. :stunned:

I know that place and have distinctly BAD memories of it from my scouting days. Our scout master ate a *black* Vienna sausage for lunch and got sick (big surprise) before we got to our stopping pt. The shelter we planned to stay the night at had no water so the remainder of the troop beat feet to the next shelter (Mollies Ridge). Me and another kid stayed w/ our scout master and helped him along. I couldnt have weighed more than 125# soaking wet w/ a 200+# guy putting nearly his full weight on my 60# pack as we walked up Mollies Ridge. That extra 5 miles seemed like an eternity!!!

No water? Not good. But I thought the scouts were always prepared.

May have told this before, but one of the guys with me was an eagle scout. He did great for the first couple of days until his knees gave out from carrying all the low calorie / high weight stuff like canned clam chowder.

I might do that hike again next year. Then again, I may just buy six days worth of beer and think about it. :stunned:
