I just got a Magpul ASAP end plate for my AR, but I don't have a castle nut wrench. Does anyone in Nashville have one that I could borrow or buy or have any idea about an alternative method of removing the nut?

Yeah I have an AR combination tool.

It didn't come factory staked. SureShot, can I borrow/buy that from you? I don't wanna have to wait a week for shipping to put this ASAP on. I just called all of the gun stores nearby and none have it.

A buddy of mine had a Bushy that didn't come factory staked.

Here's what we did to get it off:

1) Wrapped length of duct tape around the castle nut (to prevent scratching).

2) Used an pair of channel locks to clamp down, twist, and remove.

Not sure if that'll work for you or not, but it's worth a shot if you're getting antsy (like my buddy was).

He slapped his new sling plate on, but waited for his castle nut wrench before staking the new plate in.

I once used a piece of plastic at an angle on one of the edges and tapped it with a small hammer until it loosened enough to remove with my fingers. It seemed to work fairly well and fairly quickly. No damage to the nut.

Lol. Sure enough, I accidentally let the end plate turn before I had everything under control and that little SOB detent spring shot across the room and I spent the next 20min looking for it. Turns out those things have a knack for landing on shelves behind a whole bunch of junk. ASAP is awesome and a pretty decent price for a slick looking ambidextrous rig.

Yeah those springs can be a real PITA. I want an ASAP but am waiting to order one along with a BAD when I can find one - I can't see paying for separate shipping on two items that are so small.
