I guess it depends on what you want to do with it. I had pretty good luck last year shooting deer with my AP4 with a nikon 3x9 buckmaster on it, but 3x is a little much sometimes. The AP4 comes with a rear sight as well thats pretty nice. I stuck a nikon 6-18 mildot buckmaster on the remington r25 I picked up to play around with. Thats a pretty good groundhoggin scope but its heavy. Another good one is the bushnell 3200 1.5-4x with a firefly reticle. Or if you want to drop a few coins the nikon 2.5-10x 30mm monarch is a heckova do it all optic.

They use their own or C products mags. M14 mags wont work on the DPMS, I thin they will on the Armalite. I have almost the same rifle (LR308B) in 24" barrel. Have a Leupold MK4 4.5-14x50 mill dot on it. If you arent going to use it as a precision rifle, I would put the ACOG they make for .308 on it. I think it is the TA-33?

I'm pretty sure the mags that Magpul is developing for .308 will work in the SR-25/DPMS type rifles so that's something to consider as well. 44mag.com has the DPMS mags cheap right now.
