What sucks is OUR TAX $$$ is paying some metro employee to sit and put together this pack. Do metro LEOs and the Mayors office not nave some kind of crime or "Mayoring" to be working on??? These restaurants should have to get a lawyer for this matter. Or can I go to metro to get free legal docs too?? Divorce, bankruptcy, Inc my business, etc... Call the Mayor and Metro PoPo (LegalAid);)

The package looks like it was drawn up with "The Spot" in mind...it's a free-fire zone on 2nd, south of Broadway in Nashville. It's a place that experiences all kinds of bad craziness on a regular basis, plenty of gang activity, but rarely inside the bar - mostly in the parking lot and on the streets outside, with much obstruction of traffic, and frightened downtown residents (residents of the Encore building showed video of some highlights to the 2nd in command under Ronny last month - they have money and vote, so action might be taken, hooray I guess).

It's a damn shame that metro felt it necessary to include the HCP clause - I assure you all that nobody there is packing legally.

It would be my guess that the owners of this dump wanted some way to have the police take responsibility for the safety of their patrons, instead of providing it themselves, either through security, or creating an environment where that kind of behavior wasn't on the menu.

This document, this pile of hot garbage, is the result. Perhaps it helps in taking out the trash on a temporary basis, but how long until MNPD gets to enforce these rules anywhere a litigation-shy owner of any business decides to outsource his ability to accept, deny, or prosecute individuals who enter his property?

This smacks of the old slippery slope, with a quick shot of short term good followed by long term unintended consequences.

Dean and Serpas are Jokes that seem to believe they are the only ones that should be able to defend their selves.

They screwed up and left in the old no weapons where alcohol is served law. Morons.

I doubt that was a mistake they probably intended it to hopefully confuse less informed HCP holders if a business didn't take their unsolicited advice to ban HCP holders.

Isn't it amazing how Dean & Serpas are pushing their personal agendas while being paid by all taxpayers.

That steams me as well. A right, no it's a privilage now, is turning into a mockary.

It's my contention that the safest place for a daily carry is in it's holster to stay there unless being stored for the night, cleaned (at home) or being fired at a safe range or in self defense.

This in out on off here no there is a sham. And much more dangerous than if we just holster up in the morning and take it off at night.

i'd leave it alone. If it starts to be an issue we can let the NRA or TFA handle it using the freedom of information act to obtain a list of those businesses that decided to comply with this crap... then we send out a huge mailer to every HCP holder in Davidson county asking them to Ban those businesses.

Here is the best way to fix this problem. Elections do have consequences. The mayor picks the chief of police. Vote 'em out if you dont like 'em. We have a similar problem in knoxville.

The new law has to be in the code, but I can't find it online anywhere.

I've never read the actual code until today. Interesting that part 1351 also includes:

The officer shall return the handgun to the permit holder before discharging the permit holder from the scene when the officer has determined that the permit holder is not a threat to the officer, to the permit holder, or other individual or individuals provided that the permit holder has not violated any provision of this section and provided the permit holder has not committed any other violation that results in the arrest of the permit holder.

Found the new code for restaurants and alcohol:

39-17-1305©,

(A) If Authorized to carry a firearm under § 39-17-1351 and who is not consuming beer, wine or any alcoholic beverage, and is within the confines of a restaurant that is open to the public and serves alcoholic beverages, wine or beer can legally carry their concealed firearm while in such establishment.
