Another optics thread

I've done searches, and read tons of threads. Still need help, though.

I need optics for my new AR. I plan on shooting out to 125 yards, max. I'm not sure if I want to go with a red dot or traditional scope. I'd like to stay under $400.00 for the optic and mount, but can give a little if there will be a noticeable difference.

I've looked at several scopes, and to be honest I really don't know exactly what I'm comparing. One is a 1-4x24, another is a 4-16x50, and another is a 16x42, just to name a few. What do I need to be looking at for the range I want to shoot?

Right now, I'm looking at a couple of Milletts, some Super Snipers, and the Leupold Mark AR line. I've also looked at the EOTech 511, but I don't really understand how the holo sights would have any magnification for longer range shooting.

Any help would be great.

I don't know a lot about rifle scopes, so I wouldn't be much help there.

The EOTech's are not magnified. You can buy a Product: G23.FTS | L-3 EOTech Holographic Weapons Systems (or something similar) to use in conjunction with the EOTech, but then you're going to be a bit over your budget.

At the range you plan to shoot at, magnification should not be necessary, and might in fact be a hindrance at close range. A non-magnified red dot would be the best for speed, and plenty sufficient for accuracy.
