DPMS Pantherâ„¢ 5.56NATO Sportical. Any experience out there with the this gun? I can get a good deal on it and wanted to know if it was a good "starter AR" or not.

Every review I've read has been positive for a starter AR. If I recall the American Rifleman review correctly, it's only missing the forward assist and shell deflector. I've been looking at them too.

There is not alot of times you will need the forward assist, & the shell deflector sux for realoaders it deflects the brass out in front of the bench. At a range you can't get your brass because it is in front of the line. You have to wait till you get a cold range to collect your brass.

I say go for it.

I think you misunderstood. He was saying that his DOESN'T have the deflector, so you don't have to worry about chasing the brass in front of the bench. I've had AR's with and without the deflector, it didn't really bother me either way. I like having the forward assist, not that I've ever needed it, I've had other types of semi rifles that I wish would have though.

Is the "good deal" from a private seller or from a gun store? If the latter, how much? I wouldn't mind grabbing one of these myself but this model seemed to sell out like hotcakes during the Great Obama AR-15 Clearance Event and I haven't seen them since.

Buds has them in stock for $702 delivered to your FFL.
