Just a motivator-

Take a kid, grandkid, niece, nephew, or long lost aunt fishing. Man does it bring a smile and a good time to your heart! This is My son and I at the chiefs pond (local chief of police in our small town). He has absolutely fallen in love with fishing. All I hear now is "daddy, lets go bass firsching (trying to spell it like he says it"). I was a hard core tournament fisherman untill hard times made me sell my triton tr19. But I will still take him any day we have a sec. The Durango always has 3 poles and a tacklebox in the back.

P.S - It will temporarily drown out the horrible nature going on in todays politics and society. A few minutes peace of mind is a few minutes to get back to your roots!

I'm with ya - your sons lucky to have you. I miss my kids when they were that age, now I have to plan with them if I want to just hang out. I know one thing, you can't tell them enough how much you love them or give them too much hugs.

I used to think if I had a boy that I wouldnt baby him, be tough with him, wouldnt be affectionate..... HA

I beg that boy for a hug when he comes home from daycare, I bribe him with gumballs (out of his new gumball machine) for a quick peck on the cheek. I used to think I wanted a girl for her to be a daddy's girl. He is a huge daddy's boy. I cant get enough of him!

He is sooo cute in everything he does. He will do something bad that will cause me to whoop his little tail, but the bad part is I try and do it fast cause it also makes me laugh at how clever and smart he is. I will whoop him, and try to get him to go to his room fast so I can burry my face in a pillow and laugh at how cute it was that he threw such an intellegent fit/argument.

But.... I try to remind myself every day that that 10 minutes to stop at the pond on the way home from the store (when he looks out the window and says "fishin for a minute" - "last time daddy" that it wont hurt to stop. And it always makes me feel better that I know I took that minute to spend with him.

Thanks for your words, and I know now that I need to cherish these days that he begs to spend time with me because one day girls, work, and his family will occupy his time! But, thats what we raise them for :screwy:

I don't have any kids but I go occasionaly with friends that have kids, its amazing at how the catching becomes the last thing that you think of. Kids are so funny when they are having so much fun.

This thread gave me an idea....how 'bout all us "fisherman" @ TGO plan a get together at the lake sometime...and fish and tell stories. All would be invited, and the "NON" fisherpeople could join us and have a good day fishin. Those of us that have boats could give the "kids"(young and old) rides on the water....maybe have a cook-out too. Oh, and sorry 'bout hijacking your thread.

Im all in! I had to sell my bass boat due to economy. I would do it anyday. Pick a place that has a campground too. My little boy loves to tent camp. Set it up!

We usually get to go a few times a year, when we go up to my moms house on Reelfoot lake. I went to bass pro and bought my son a fishing rod to have here. We are going down to a scout camp this weekend, and there is a lake on the property. The camp is over Sunday morning, but we will go spend a few hours fishing with his new fishing rod that he doesn't know about. He wrote in a school paper, he's in 2nd grade, that he loves when he and his dad go fishing...brought a tear to my eye, and bye dang, I'm going to take him this weekend! I'm going to do better and make time to take him, and my girls, they like it too, more often, even if it is at Shelby Farms, big park for you non Memphians. Can't wait.

I'm going to teach him to bass fish! Bought him a Shakespear spincast and a spinner bait!

Thats what my son uses. He is only 2.5 - A Spongebob spincast and a spinnerbait (small 1/16 oz). Every time we pass a pond he begs me to go, but I am usually say I am busy (not too busy that I couldnt stop him by for a few casts).
