Apples and oranges guys! Don't try to compare smoking bans with firearm bans. Second hand smoke is more dangerous than direct smoking. The smoker cannot protect you from his second hand smoke, especially in an enclosed area. The comparison you are making would be equivalent to arguing the right to fire at random in a restaurant! Hey, TS if somebody gets hit!

A weapon properly holstered is not the threat to health that a lit cigarette is. Bad analogy. Stick to 2dA when arguing gun rights.

Just keep it out of sight and don't tell anyone you have it in your vehicle. Even so-called friends at work may get mad at you some day and may use the knowledge against you. And never allow any private security guard to search your vehicle because they don't have any authority to do so in the first place.

An overreaching ban on firearms in a vehicle is more fear-mongering based legislation. It creates an "image" of a safer workplace. You know, one could create this same image by forcing all employees to dress-up like babies and crawl on all fours to work. Sure, I'm being figurative (and ridiculous) for the sake of proving a point that this type of rule enforcement is created by stupid people.

Lawmakers Look At New Gun Bill - Nashville News Story - WSMV Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The next gun showdown in the Tennessee Legislature may involve your workplace parking lot.

A House Judiciary Committee heard testimony Tuesday on a bill that would prohibit companies from banning guns in locked cars on company property.

Several large businesses, including FedEx and Bridgestone, testified that this bill would work against policies they have put in place to ensure a safe workplace for their employees.

Gun owners also testified in front of the committee, saying that current policies prohibiting weapons in the parking lot leave them vulnerable to crimes, including carjackings.

The bill could be considered in the upcoming legislative session, which starts in January.

Maybe someone else already said this. But if your gun is locked in your car, you are not inside it, and your car is getting stolen...how is your gun going to help you?

You're right...if you car is stolen from your company parking lot with your handgun in it, it's not going to do you much good. However you can't use deadly force to protect propert anyway. You can use it to prevent a carjacking, but not if you had to leave your handgun at home.

Also, if you have a long commute to work, being able to have your handgun with you to and from work and during any stops along the way could help.

Otherwise you have to leave your handgun at home so as not to have it on company property, then it can't even help you period.
