you have to use Photo Bucket or some other third party site...and link to it I guess. I gave up on trying to insert photos

That's the spirit!

To answer the question...

We recommend using a photo hosting service such as Photobucket to host your pictures. Once you upload a picture to Photobucket, their service provides you with links beneath each picture that you can copy and paste into a post here to include your photo.

Optionally, if you know what the URL of one of your photos is elsewhere on the Internet, you can just click the Insert Image button insertimage.gif in the message editor and paste the URL into the resulting pop-up.

Do be careful when hot-linking from sites that you don't own or have an account on, however, because sometimes the owner of those sites will do a bit of trickery and cause their web server to insert nasty pictures instead of whatever it was you thought you were posting.

Which, again, is why I recommend Photobucket. They are a legitimate photo hosting service and don't do anything like that.

:(, Ok, I needed that this morning!

I use photobucket, it is very easy to use. Once you get your pic uploaded, you can just select the picture you want to post on here, and the box with the URL's comes up, you just copy, and paste it in here with the insertimage.gif icon and bam, you are done.

I've always found it just as easy to use my ISP webspace.

Comcast gives you 5 GB.

Most every ISP gives you some space.

You just need to learn how to transfer files up to your ISP space and the proper URL to it. There are on line tutorials for this on most all ISP sites.

2 ways to do it:

- your ISP probably has a web based file transfer upload. Works, but crude, and often one file at a time

- FTP is by far the preferred method.

Hint: If you use FireFox, there's a great little FTP plugin called FireFTP. You can just click on remote file and copy/paste the URL into the insertimage.gif dialog box.

Certainly, PhotoBucket and other sites work fine, too, but I've always preferred having my stuff under my "own" control.
