Wondering what the situation is on these two pieces of legislation.

1.The State dropping the cities ability to opt out of the guns in parks.

I had heard they were going to do this. Reason Im asking is several of us here in Fayetteville are gonna try to get a referendum to undo our ban here if no action from the State is pending. Gonna take a lot of work,so dont want to start it for nothing.

2."Parking Lot" law, where an employer can no longer stop an employee from having a firearm in their car. Whats the latest on this?

Thanks much for any info.

There won't be any action on either until the legislature is back in session next January.

The bill on parking lots is HB1793/SB1607 (Note Rep West had health issues and missed a large part of the session, that is one reason this has been delayed)

As far as parks, not sure what the state will do. It would require a new bill to be introduced. Also some cities may cite that they have incurred expenses from posting new signs, to comply with the new law. The House sponsor of the park bill has said he's not sure he would back a new bill to take away the authority from local governments. It will be interesting to watch.

If I'm not mistaken, you won't see any new gun laws until next year.

Since TN legislature does not meet again until Jan 2010, I'd say that's a reliable prediction.

First post since I just found this site.

I want to help put HB1793/SB1607 back on track.

If it is necessary to wait until January, OK.

I will be contacting my various elected officials about this.

I am sure there are a lot of TGO people willing to help. Let's make it happen.

Thanks

I had some correspondence concerning HB1793 with Jon Lundberg, vice-chair of the Judiciary committee summer study. He seems a strong supporter of this bill, and indicates he will be making every effort to ensure its return for consideration in the next session.
