Colt Peacemaker .22

My grandfather has a SA Colt Peacemaker in .22LR that he bought new in 1975 for $125. I told him that the gun was probably worth a lot more than that, but can't really find anything online that would tell. I was wondering if there was anywhere else I could look or if anyone knew what the value would be. I just cleaned it up the other day and there is no rust or pitting and the gun functions perfectly.

I've seen asking prices from about $500 to $800. The $800 figure was for a 4-5/8" barrel, 2nd .22 mag cylinder, possibly with box.

The seller claimed that the 4-5/8" barrel was rare.

My blue book of gun values (which is last years) lists it at $550.00 at 100% in the box. Add 20% for 4.4 in. barrell, 30% for 4 3/4 in. Add 10% for original box. Subtract 10% if without extra cylinder.

This model can be identified by its G or L serial number prefix.

I had two of them. One was a 4 5/8" with a .22mag Cylinder and the other is a 7" with a .22LR. Cylinder. I got broke into about four years back and they made off with the .22 mag, a Norinco 1911 and a Browning Hi-Power. The .22 mag a great little gun! Loved to shoot it. It's longer cousin is still a great little shooter. My ten year old son loves to shoot it at the range when we go. It's his favorite! Fortunately it was at my dads or it would have been taken too.

Great pistol to hand down to a grandson sometime. Don't let him sell it!
