Suppressor Plans

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Okay, I know you have to have your paperwork in order before beginning contruction of a suppressor. But it is perfectly legal to possess plans or drawings for a suppressor correct? I am wanting to see some plans or blueprints on how to construct one before I pay for a stamp. I have a lathe and have seen where others have made their own. If somebody has some plans or knows a good source let me know. Thanks.

What kind of suppressor are you trying to make, I think I have some plans specifically designed for a mini-14 and a 1911 in pdf, but may be able to scare up some more generic designs if I look around.

There is a Silencersmithing Forum with a wealth of information for those who build their own over at silencertalk.com. Start there.

Thought I would start with one for a .22. I am interested in looking at the plans of any suppressor to see how much and what kind of machining is involved. The "guts" is what i am most interested in.

I am posting from my phone so I can't send the files right now but pm me your email and I can email you a couple of PDFs for .22, .223 and a book on improvised suppressors. I can't vouch for any of it as I have not actually built any cans, just read a bit about them.

I would also be interested in the plans for them

After having my inbox inundated with PMs, I managed to set up some DL links for the PDFs. Of course all NFA rules apply to the info contained in the PDF's, so don't go building anything without Uncle Sugar's OK.

Has anyone on here built one themselves? Any suggestions on which designs work best? Some of the designs I have seen are pretty complicated. Do these work that much better or are the gains (or loss of decibels) nominal?

From what I've learned with my F1 can unless you're ok with making a lot of K baffles and threading or welding your tube I'd stick to a monocore. That said try to make your blast chamber smaller to reduce FRP [First Round Pop] and don't make it too long like I did which also increases FRP. There are a number of different monocore designs that are easy to copy with a CNC mill, or you can do a staggered chamber core with a manual mill and some good end mills [or on a drill press if you're really stretched]. I would recommend you stick to 7075 and use Ti tubing or 7075 Al tubing of a reasonable thickness [i'd try to stay at or above 0.065" wall]
