Although their logo won't be replacing my mugshot as my avatar, I enjoy the H&Ks. All plastic isn't created equal.

Hi there, please forgive me I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but it deals with H&k's. I was wondering if those of you who own H&K's keep any spare parts on hand and if so what parts? Again I am sorry for the thread hi-jack.

Actually, I don't keep any spare parts. Only part I have is the detent plate for a variant 1 USP that I replaced with the variant 3 plate.

With H&Ks, you aren't likely to need any parts. That's true of other quality pistols too. I replaced the recoil spring in my Beretta 92 after 20 years, not because it needed it but because someone gave me the part.

If I kept any spare part, it would be the recoil spring. I doubt any other part is likely to ever wear out with half-way decent maintenance.

While I've got your attention HK Master, how involved is the changing of the variant? My compact has a safety but does not decock, whatever variant that is. I'd like to have the safety and decocker on it, variant 1 I believe.

Boy, that's bass ackwards....

Remove the slide, push the pin on the left rear that holds the plate, replace with proper plate. push pin back. Replace slide. About 30 seconds time....

The real problem is getting the plate. H&K won't sell directly to you. You'll have to find a H&K certified armor if you don't have special friends.

A question:

What do those who use H&K pistols professionally think about the LEM trigger? I know what I think about it (very positively).

Any experience/feedback from the field?

Yeah it is bass ackwards. If you want one in the pipe you have to have it cocked all the time. If you don't want it cocked you can't have one in the pipe so the safety is really pretty useless. I guess I should have checked before I bought it, I just assumed they all came variant 1.

You know of any unscrupulous H&K armorers on the boards that would sell me one of those illicit contraband plates?

macho,

Try the site below for your plate. A guy on the "other" forum needed to do something similar to you and was given this link. Hope this helps!

Well...you CAN lower the hammer, but it's a bit tricky on a compact.

Yeah, I'd try www.hkpartsonline.com. They couldn't help me back when, but might be able to do so now.

BTW, with a bit of filing, you should be able to turn your variant whatever into a variant 1. I don't recommend that though. I't hard stainless steel and personally, I'd get a variant 3 plate.

Yeah I wasn't too keen on trying to lower the bobbed hammer, might get a surprise I didn't like. I actually tried to with it unloaded and that was enough to convince me not to try.

I've got an H&K P7 PSP that I carry.

I got rid of all my plastic guns about 2 years ago, so no more USP(s) but I still have one HK; my P7 PSP :)
