use an AR15 chamber brush on a fixed rod and push that sucker in hard and turn it seven full times.

When I tried twisting my chamber brush like this it came apart. Do the brushes hold up doing this or did I just get a bad brush? It came apart where the twisted part inserted into the threaded piece. Since them I have been pushing the brush in and out. THis is not the first time I have heard they should be turned.

It did not unscrew. The brush came apart where it was put together. The twisted part of the brush where it inserted into the part that screws onto the rod. I guess I did not make it clear as to what happened.

Yeah, mine did that too. I just push, pull, turn 1/4 and repeat.

Sorry about your brushes guys. My spare that I bought from the same surplus store says ATLANTCO 5415-GI .223 chamber brush. My GI rod sticks in the fixed position and the chamber brush is also stuck on but it works for now. I will probably get a Laskey dedicated chamber brush/rod and handle if I can't find one that I can "hide" on my rifle. You could try a shotgun brush for the lugs and a 30?Cal for the chamber, it should do the same thing. Every AR cleaning kit I see at Dick's or Sportmans Warehouse doesn't even come with a chamber brush.. Maybe I can hide one in my handguards?

The Otis M16 cleaning kit I bought comes with a .30 cal brush for the chamber, nothing for the locking lugs. It's fine for a field expedient kit, though.

I'll be at the Stones River range Sunday at 1pm. Let me know if y'all will be there. I'll be the one making lots of noise with my MN 91/30.
