Speer Gold Dot 9mm 115 "+P+"

I may have this in the wrong forum. The ammo forum seems to be mostly for reloading. If it needs to be there just let me know.

Does anyone have experience with this ammo? The Corbon DPX 115 +P is supposed to be the highest rated in 9mm for defense, but I know the Gold Dot is a very well constructed bullet, and it surpasses the Corbon in velocity and energy ( 1300fps and 432 foot pounds compared to 1250/399 for the Corbon). Thing is, I can get the Gold Dot on Ammunition To Go for about $25 per 50 round box (so-called "LE" ammo), as opposed to going to the gun store and paying about the same for a 20 round box. And the Corbon is about $30 dollars a box of 20. Both the Corbon and Gold Dot use very good boollits, but the cost is a factor as well.

That is not a bad price i'd go for it. it is gonna beat your gun up pretty good, +p+. I personally like the Hornady critical defense stuff.

Gold Dot is what I carry. Usually the 124 grain.

This time old question again. The solution that you are looking for may be found:

Aw come on. It cant be that old. I just posted it this morning!:P

By the way, it wasn't me. That was some burglar who sat on the computer all sleepy eyed at 1AM and didn't search ahead of time.:D

No problem. Like I said, it hacks me off paying 25-30 for 20 rounds in the gun stores when you can buy this stuff and pay about the same for 50 rounds. Essentially half price.

I had some... very loud, if nothing else. By all accounts the bullet expands so violently that it fragments and has very little penetration. Not exactly what I'm looking for.

Ended up settling on 147gr +p Gold Dots from Double-Tap.

IMO, it doesn't really matter as long as you can get several shots on target.

Just looked at the Double Tap. Hot load using a Gold Dot bullet. Sounds like it'll fit the bill. But I'll be using these for defense only and shooting them in a Sig 226 and a Beretta 92FS. Can't afford to shoot a large round count of these of course, but how will these two hold up with this stout of a load? Don't want to eventually wind up with a slide up my nose.:squint:

What about changing out the recoil spring?

It'll be easier on the gun than +p+ loads... Be careful upgrading recoil springs, the extra slide return velocity may hurt more than help (on small parts such as extractors, etc). A better idea, if you're worried about battering your lock block, etc, is to install a buffer.

Really? I've been thinking about ordering stainless steel guide rods with springs from Lone Wolf for my Glocks. I figured that would be a good upgrade and then I'd never have to worry about a broken guide rod. So is that not really a good idea then ya think? I mainly shoot non +p, but carry +p in 9mm and .40 for self defense.

You may have been talking about it already when you mentioned Corbon ammo but have you looked into their DPX rounds? I haven't used them yet personally and am wondering the same thing you are about the Gold Dots.

Sorry for the late reply here. I have looked into the DPX, but they are just too expensive. Especially when I can get the Double Tap 124+P in a 50 round box for about the same price.
