Arisaka What model do I have

My stepfather let me have this. Just curious whats the difference between a 38 and a 99 model. The pic's aren't good but late and cell is all I had. Thanks Trying to figure out what caliber so I can shoot it.

Best I can tell its a model 99. Now to see what ammo it shoots. Looks like 7.7x58 or possible 6.5x50mm.

Online or have your local gun shop get some for you. I think Norma is one of the last manufacturers of the "jap" rounds.

Last I saw was on Midway.

How is the bore on that baby?

I have some on order locally. i just want to fire it once to say i did. What ammo is cheap these days. I could always reload them if I wanted to shoot it much.

I have two of the Arisaka rifles, one someone sporterized, it shoots and operates great, not much recoil, the other is chromed, must have been some kind of parade thing, never have shot that one. Fun to shoot.

I have a type 99 and a type 38, both unmolested and both bringbacks. I've fired the 99 but not the 38. Pavi Partisan makes modern reloadable ammo for both that won't bread the bank.
