Multi state carry question

Ok, legal experts, I have a question. I have begun a new gig doing some traveling with a new country music act. Artist, management, other band members, driver all know I carry and none of them has a problem with it. Invariably, we will be in states along the way where my permit is not honored :P. Since it can't magically disappear, am I within legal boundaries if I leave it locked up securely on the tour bus while we are in those states and it is not on my person being carried? Do I need to go so far as unloading it, and separating firearm and ammo?

As long as you're not touring NY, NJ, IL or CA (maybe others)... locking it up unloaded will be fine. In the aforementioned states, it's not legal to cross the border with your carry piece in any condition.

I'd unload and separate the firearm from the ammo with both being in locked containers in those states. Paranoid, maybe. Covering my ass, you betcha. Especially if some local PD decided that the stereotype on musician types is true and that you guys might have some illegal substances on the bus. Search warrant from local Judge + guns improperly stored aboard a vehicle crossing jurisdictional lines = bad karma.

I wouldn't chance it man.

And how would I find out what

(maybe others)...
would be, exactly? Thanks for the quick response!

I am curious though. Since while on the road the tour bus is considered your home, does that have any bearing? I know that when I went to an "event" in a state park, we were told that the tents that we were living in and the "hotel" (they had rooms in a long house for rent) that we were renting out were our home, they could not "bust us" for alcohol.
